Welsh rugby

The Welsh Rugby Union has told clubs that they can play 12 players in a match in order to fulfill their fixtures.

A number of lower league matches have been called off due to bad weather.

As long as both sides agree, the Wru can play with 12 players.

All clubs should continue beyond this season.

Reduced numbers games are common at mini and junior levels in Wales and the WRU's move replicates initiatives tried in some other rugby countries.

A lot of games have been called off this year because of the WRU's claim that they have the most players registered.

The number of outstanding fixtures that are due to be rearranged and played before the end of the season was discussed at the meeting.

They decided to make sure all clubs have the chance to finish their fixture programmes.

If both teams agree, teams can start a league game with teams as little as 12 players per side.

The approach ensures the fixture begins in a fair and equitable manner.

It's possible to have 12 or 13 with scrums.

All eight replacements can be used if a team has 20 players.

Unless there is a difference of four players between the two teams, reduced-numbers games will not need to be abandoned.

The awarding and claiming of league points was covered in the second step.

The committee decided that teams can be awarded or forfeited points retroactively.

All clubs are in a position to continue beyond this season as a result of this decision, according to the WRU.
