The America's Ladies Professional Golf Association has said that Kathy Whitworth, the professional golfer with the most trophies, has died.

She has won the most times on the professional tour.

Sam Snead and Tiger Woods held the men's and women's game records, but the Texan had six more trophies.

Her partner said that she died suddenly on Christmas Eve.

Bettye Odle said that Kathy left this world the way she left it, laughing and creating memories.

In 1971 she was a runner-up in the US Women's Open, which was the most prestigious trophy in golf.

She was the first woman to make a million dollars on the LPGA tour.

She said that she would have swapped being the first to make a million for winning the Open.

In 1985 she won her last professional title, 23 years after she won the first one.

One of the most incredible women was paid tribute to by the commissioner of the league.

She said that Kathy was a champion both on and off the course.
