They are willing to listen to the right offer for Chris Sale, despite not actively shopping him.

According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, the American League East team is not looking to trade any of their starters but view rotation as an area of depth and are at least willing to listen.

The starting pitcher has a no-trade clause.

If a team trades for him, they would get more than just a one-year rental.

There would be a huge injury risk.

After undergoing Tommy John surgery, the southpaw missed the shortened 2020 campaign. He had a stress fracture to his right rib cage, a fractured finger, and a broken wrist, as well as a bicycle accident, and that was just the beginning of his concerns.

"You couldn't make this up, right?" the baseball officer asked in August. Someone needs to find the Chris Sale doll and get it back.

Sale didn't make a lot of starts last season.

Before this run of injuries, he was one of the best pitchers in baseball and had seven All-Star selections. He finished in the top six of American League Cy Young voting seven years in a row, from 2012 to 2018.

He would be a high-ceiling trade target for teams looking to make additions to their starting rotation if he can prove he isn't past his prime.
