It's Christmas Eve at Tyrese Maxey's house. A group of people are dressed in pajamas and singing along to a song. Family members who are seated are encouraged to join the party as others clap, sing and dance. The Philadelphia 76ers point guard spent the holidays with the Maxey family in the middle of his second NBA season. Denyse says the family will travel to him when he can't come home for the holidays. They will always be with each other.

Christmas Day is over. Gifts hidden away are a surprise for Tyrese's twin nieces. The Maxeys decided to take a nap in the basement before the night ended so they could have more fun.

Close friends arrive to the celebration a few hours later. On display are lobster fried rice, salmon burgers, and Tyrese's favorite chicken wings. A group of people form a circle around the kitchen's island with their hands in the air.

Family members sit down to eat. Denasia thought something felt off. She said it smelled like something was burning.

The adults start looking for something. They look at the microwave. There was no chance of success. White smoke can be seen coming from the top of the laundry room door. The door of the garage is open and there are flames.

None of the family members have ever been in a fire. They all think they are dealing with a fire. Denyse makes the family move. A group of people are outside, including Tyrese and his grandmother. Denyse and her brother rushed upstairs to get a fire extinguisher and a puppy. Everyone is met with thick, black smoke when they get to the front door.

The fire is not small and can be contained. The lower left side of the house was engulfed in flames. He calls for people to leave the house.

The family members are all safe. They watch the fire destroy windows and melt what's left behind as they shiver in the cold. The firefighters are trying to save the house.

A man sits on the ground as he watches a fire. Three months later, he rented it. For the first time in a long time, the smile on Tyrese's face disappeared and tears ran down his face.

This was the first time that I was able to provide food and a home for everyone to stay in. I felt like it was my fault because it was your house. Your family needs you to take them to a safe place. They are outside without shoes. It was a difficult time.

The Maxeys are back in Jersey to celebrate Christmas. Tyrese has a new home and is surrounded by his family who made it out safely that night. Maxey is a key part of the team's hopes for an NBA title after a difficult year. Maxey had a foot injury that kept him out of the basketball court. The 22-year-old star's spirit is high and ready for any challenge that comes his way, because he and his family are living proof they can make it through anything together.

The Maxey family stood in a conference room at the Four Seasons in Philadelphia after the fire. Their clothes were lost in the fire, so they're all dressed in the same outfit. Family members share what they are most thankful for. It's their life this year.

Most of the presents under the tree were saved, even though they lost their phones, luggage and possessions in the fire. The smell of smoke and a small amount of water damage overwhelmed the Maxeys.

There was a different reason for the tears to run down Tyrese's face. The gifts he bought for his nieces were the only ones destroyed in the fire. The twins, who were 7 years old at the time, didn't have any presents to open.

"I don't cry." Tyrese says she's always happy. It hurt me to see my twin nieces cry because they don't know what happened or they think they are bad.

Somehow, the presents underneath the family's tree were untouched. As much as things were destroyed, there was hope that all was not lost at that moment. Courtesy of the Camden County Fire Marshal

At that time, Maxey had a lot to think about. He needed to find a place to live. He wouldn't be able to live in his house again after it was damaged. He says that it's impossible for him to not worry about all the things.

It was time for Tyrese to return to the 76ers and head to Washington to play the Wizards.

He tried to lift his spirits by cracking jokes. The oversized clothes the 76ers gave Tyrese made him show up to practice. Why did you get your brother's clothes on? "thybulle said."

This made Tyrese happy. He says that he was making him laugh. I appreciate having guys like that looking out for me.

On the court, Tyrese was the same as always. In the victory over the Wizards, he had 13 points, 3 rebound and 4 assists. "I haven't seen him without a smile on his face, that's what I've been looking for." He didn't wear it with anger or sadness because he was not happy about it.

When TYRESE was a baby, his father gave him a Teddy bear that played the popular "Charge" fanfare at sporting events. Every morning before work, he squeezed the bear's paw to see his son smiling. As soon as he was able to walk, Tyrese had the entire house. He was always looking for a reason to run. At just 4 years old, Tyrese played his first game and was taught how to dribble by TYRONE. After a few years in first grade, Tyrese started playing football.

He didn't like how physical football was. Denyse didn't like playing running back. The first car ride to practice was emotional. He became enamored with the sport after he switched to quarterback. His father knew he needed to stick with one sport if he wanted to excel, so he asked his son if he wanted to play basketball. When Tyrese was in second grade, his father took over his training schedule. He asked Tyrese if he wanted to play like a Miami Heat legend, and he was ready to do it.

He was trained until he was 19 years old. They trained for two hours every day for three days a week. He grew into a fierce competitor while playing for two teams. When he practiced his acrobatic moves at home, his family became unwilling perimeter defenders.

Denyse says that he practiced on her, one of his grandmothers, or his sisters, who don't seem to like it. He practices those moves on his family a lot.

When he was a basketball player, Tyrese showed off his resilience. In the first quarter of the elementary school championship game, Tyrese started favoring his left hand. His parents wondered if he was okay, but he never left the game. He dropped 46 points in the title game but the effort wasn't enough. He cried because he felt like he didn't do enough to get the win.

He scored 46 points and wasn't excited. My son has that spirit. He would be happy if he could score two points. He is upset and crying after we lose 46 points. That is what he is.

In his one season at the University of Kentucky, Tyrese averaged 14 points under John Calipari. After selecting him as the 21st overall pick in the 2020 NBA draft, he showed flashes, but it wasn't until Ben Simmons demanded a trade that the 76ers realized what he could do.

As the team's starting point guard in the 2020-21 season, Tyrese's scoring increased from 8 points a game to 17.5. His helpers went from 2 to 4.3. In his first game as a starter, Tyrese scored 38 points. The 76ers were eliminated in the second round.

I couldn't even begin to wrap my mind around how he was able to fit in with that group of players. You have to fit in with them and still complement them as players. He's had a lot of success and it's impressive.

He has averaged 22.9 points per game this season. He was playing one of his best games of the season that night against Milwaukee. In the second quarter, Tyrese stepped on Jevon Carter's foot as he drove to the basket. He has been out for weeks because of an injury to his foot.

Denyse says thatTyrese is going to like it. When he got injured this year, I told him to focus on the positive and not worry about the future.

The Philadelphia 76ers are trying to fill the role of Tyrese until he returns from injury. It says a lot about him as a player. It's pretty impressive if a team is able to fill this void.

Tyrese stays with his family off the court.

He asked his uncle Brandon to live with him and help out with the day-to-day aspects of his life after the 2020 NBA draft. The life of a 19-year-old pro basketball player seemed overwhelming. Since then, they have been inseparable.

Tyrese is very close to his sisters. Since becoming a rising star in the NBA, they say, Tyrese has not changed. He is still the same person that he has always been.

He's having a good time! Denasia jokes that he's very annoying. I adore him." The best brother in the world is him. He has a bright personality. It is hard to notice whatever he is going through. Everybody wants to have him as a brother.

When Keiara's little brother comes to Texas, he brings energy. Denyse warns the family that tyrant is on the way. He is going to want to play games so make sure you have the energy. He wants us to be here all the time.

When his family isn't around, Tyrese likes to spend time with his dog, watch movies, and play basketball. He always did it with his family, but he thinks his son watches more to perfect his craft. He does one thing when he's not with his family.

"I'll call his mama," he says. The family jokes about the number of times Tyrese calls, but he knows he has to check in on his friends and family.

"I call my mom at least six or seven times a day." When I am bored, I call my sisters. My dad is the one who calls all the time. I talk to my uncle all the time. I rely on those people. I rely on the Lord and on them.

Denyse teaches TYRE how to wrap a present correctly as they sit in the living room of his new home. One year after the fire, Tyrese is getting the supplies needed for the job: scissors, tape and wrapping paper. The actor locked in as if he was watching a game. Denyse is putting the finishing touches on a present.

She tells him that he needs to be very efficient with the paper. There are a lot of gifts to wrap.

He moved in at the beginning of the season. The columns that greet you outside are adorned with white lights and wreathes. He has a tree in his living room. Gifts are wrapped in a variety of colors beneath the tree.

As Denyse moves on to the next gifts, Tyrese and Tyrone are watching. The twins are the ones that need these. The young girls didn't have gifts to unwrap so Tyrese was sad. He wants to give them matching jerseys. Two of the family members don't have one.

These moments are cherished by the Maxey family. The spirit of giving is extended by Tyrese. Tyrese attended his grandmother's weekly trips to deliver food to people who weren't able to leave their homes. He received the NBA's community assist award in November for organizing several charitable events of his own.

Three days after he injured his foot, Tyrese hosted a turkey drive and gave out free Thanksgiving meals to 300 families. The meals included a frozen turkey, potatoes, cranberry sauce and stuffing mix. "I wanted them to be able to touch me and I wanted to be accessible to them and show them that I really care, because it really means something to me," she said.

The foundation held a toy drive for the second year in a row. The toys will be sent to Philadelphia and Dallas. The experience of the fire inspired Tyrese to do more charity work.

Denyse says that seeing all the help that we received as a family last year to help him get back on his feet, it meant even more to him to be able to give someone a box full of all kinds of amazing fixings for Thanksgiving. His clothes, shoes, furniture, and cars were destroyed in the fire, but he is still who he is.

According to Joseph Hales Jr., the chief fire marshal of Camden County, the official cause of the fire is not known. The cause was not narrowed down to one outcome.

The Maxeys look forward to celebrating Christmas Eve the same way they always do, by playing games, singing songs and laughing. The tradition will continue on Christmas morning. There will be many reasons to be thankful.

Tyrese says they are going to try to have a good Christmas. It will be great. At the end of the day, we are all blessed to be here.
