Another late-game gaffe by the New England patriots cost them a chance to win

Running back Rhamondre Stevenson lost a fumbled ball at the Cincinnati Bengals 8-yard line with 59 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter. One week after Stevenson was involved in a crazy play with no time left in a loss at the Las Vegas Raiders, the miscue was the defining play in a heartbreaking defeat.

The score was 22-18 in favor of the Bengaless.

I was doing more than I was supposed to. Stevenson said that probably should have gone down.

The lack of situational awareness was once thought to be stunning, but it's been more of the norm for the team this year.

A sense of resignation appeared among some players after Saturday's game in which they trailed 22-0 at halftime before making a charge in the second half.

Veteran New England safety AdrianPhillips said it was a tough one. We didn't blow it.

Matthew said that stuff hasn't been going their way. It seems like we're having a season like that sometimes.

The regular-season finale for the Buffalo Bills will take place in Week 18 of the season.

Stevenson's fumbled the ball on Saturday was his first in over a year. While positioning themselves for a game-winning touchdown, the Pats were aware that Cincinnati was out of timeouts.

Vonn Bell ripped the ball away from Stevenson after DJ Reader stood up for him.

Stevenson's forward progress wasn't stopped because the runner has to be controlled by the defense, according to the referee. He has to be kept under control and have his feet taken away. He had his feet.

Stevenson was asked if his progress was halted.

I think what I think. The ball was recovered by theBengals. Stevenson said it's whatever they call it. I was trying to get an extra yard.

Stevenson was the leader of the team.

He has been our best player on the offensive side of the ball all season long, according toPhillips. He didn't get what he wanted today. We love him and he is the dawg. He already knows how to put it on himself.

Even if Stevenson didn't give up the ball, there was no guarantee that the Pats would score. They had scored just 14 red zone touchdown in 37 trips, which was the last ranked red zone offense.

They scored on their first red zone trip against Cincinnati, but after digging themselves a large halftime deficit, their margin for error was thin.

The game was a good example of New England's season so far.

It looks good when we are locked in. It doesn't when we're not. We are who we are. You showed your hand.
