Mike McCarthy is in Dallas.

If the Cowboys get knocked out early in the playoffs, they could fire McCarthy and hire Sean Payton as their new head coach.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones tried to hire New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton but was unsuccessful. After the coach retires, the road will be less difficult for the Cowboys because they will have compensation for New Orleans.

He is expected to return to the sideline in the next decade.

The former Denver Broncos coach, Vic Fangio, is said to be in the running to be the new defensive coordinators. The coaching carousel might not be as active as it was a year ago, but between 4-7 jobs are expected to be open.

During his time in New Orleans, he made the playoffs nine times and won the Superbowl.

If the team is one-and-done again, McCarthy's patience could wear thin.
