According to a source familiar with the situation, the New York Mets and Carlos Correa are working through a medical issue after his physical with the team showed the same right leg concerns which nixed a deal with the San Francisco Giants.
After a deal with the Giants was put on hold because of concerns with his lower right leg, the Mets agreed to a 12-year, $315 million contract with outfielder Carlos Correa. The Mets had been interested in acquiring the star veteran.
According to the source, a deal with the Mets is still likely despite the latest delay, but the contract could be reworked to account for the issue. It could be for less years and less money, or it could be language that doesn't guarantee a certain amount of money if Correa misses a lot of time due to a leg ailment.
It's not uncommon for agreements to leak before the team makes an announcement, as an agreement between player and team isn't official until the player passes a physical. Sometimes a player won't pass his physical because one team doesn't view his medicals the same way as another.
The Mets have the same concerns as the Giants, which is why the signing is being delayed. A source says there isn't a timetable for the sides to change the agreement.
