According to Jeff Passan, the Arizona Diamondbacks are trading outfielder Daulton Varsho to the Toronto BlueJays for top prospect Gabriel Moreno.

USA Today's Bob Nightengale reports that Arizona will get Lourdes Gurriel Jr.

The first three seasons of Varsho's baseball career were in Arizona.

Varsho played in center and right field a lot during the campaign. He can play a variety of positions. He slashed.235/.302/.443 with 27 home runs and 74 runs scored.

After trading Teoscar Hernndez, the BlueJays needed some outfielder help.

Gurriel was Toronto's starting left fielder, but now that he's gone to Arizona, Varsho will likely take over that position with George Springer in right field.

Varsho is expected to be a key piece for the BlueJays in the years to come.

In the first five years of his career, Gurriel lived in Toronto. He's been a solid player for most of his career, but he wasn't the reason the D-backs gave up Varsho.

Arizona parted with Varsho to get one of the best prospects in baseball in Moreno, who was listed as the top prospect by Baseball America.

In 62 games with Triple-A Buffalo, the catcher hit.315/.386/.420 with three home runs and 39RBI. In 25 games for the BlueJays in 2022, the Venezuelan slashed.319/.355/.377 with one home run and sevenRBI.

By the time he hits his prime, the young catcher could be one of the best in baseball.
