Do you want to go on a Royal Caribbean cruise? When it comes to picking an itinerary, there are a lot of options.

Every corner of the world, from the Caribbean to the waters around Australia and New Zealand, is where the world's biggest cruise line offers voyages.

Royal Caribbean has more cruise ships than any other company. It's possible to deploy vessels on all the classic cruise itineraries in places like the Caribbean, Europe and Alaska while still having ships left over for more exotic routes.

The Caribbean is the most popular destination for Royal Caribbean's regular customers. In a typical summer, the line will deploy about half of its ships on sailings to the Caribbean, and then send another six or seven ships to Europe. Every summer, the line sends a few ships to Alaska.

More of the line's ships will be sent to the Caribbean during the winter, as well as sending a few to Asia and Australia.

More than 300 different ports are visited by Royal Caribbean's ships. There are five places you can visit on a Royal Caribbean ship.

The Caribbean and the Bahamas

It is in Royal Caribbean's name that the word "Caribbean" is found. The Caribbean is still a big part of the line's business even after 50 years.

More than half of the line's fleet is usually deployed to the Caribbean and the Bahamas for at least part of the year. Most of the line's ships are located in the region during the winter. In the winter, 22 of its vessels are in the Caribbean.

It's the best Caribbean cruise for everyone.

There are more than half a dozen home ports for Royal Caribbean to choose from. The line has a lot of short trips from Florida to the Bahamas. There is an abundance of seven-night sailings to Caribbean and Bahamas ports, as well as a number of longer trips in the region that range from nine to 14 nights.

The seven-night sailings in the Caribbean and Bahamas are broken down into three broad categories.

  • Eastern Caribbean voyages.
  • Western Caribbean voyages.
  • Southern Caribbean voyages.

The Eastern Caribbean will include stops at St. Martin, St. Thomas and Perfect Day at CocoCay. Sometimes the line goes to other islands such as Puerto Rico. On an Eastern Caribbean cruise, there are usually three or four calls.

Some of the destinations on Royal Caribbean's Western Caribbean voyages will include three or four stops. Royal Caribbean has a private beach destination in Haiti called Labadee.

The line has seven nights of itineraries in the Southern Caribbean. There are a couple of stops at St. Thomas and St. Martin.

There are 6 classes of Royal Caribbean ships.

When sailing to the Caribbean, Royal Caribbean ships usually go to PortMiami, Port Canaveral, Fort Lauderdale's Port Everglades, San Juan, Puerto Rico, and Galveston, Texas.

The first ever Caribbean sailings out of Barbados were launched by the line. All of the voyages out of Barbados are in the southern Caribbean. Royal Caribbean can offer trips that are heavy in the south of the island.

Australia and New Zealand

Every winter, Royal Caribbean sends at least one ship to Australia. It offers a wide range of itineraries out of the two cities that can be used to call around Australia and New Zealand.

While the itineraries the line offers in the region vary in length, from just two nights to 15 nights, the shorter voyages are geared towards a local Australian crowd. The longer itineraries are the most popular among North Americans.

Royal Caribbean has a loyalty program.

There are a number of New Zealand itineraries that include all of New Zealand in one trip.

In New Zealand, the ship stops in the Bay of Islands, as well as in New Zealand's famed Milford Sound and Doubtful Sound.

Alaska

Royal Caribbean isn't the largest player in Alaska cruises. Princess Cruises and Holland America are sister lines that control a lot of the market. Royal Caribbean's big, activity-filled ships are popular with families who want to visit the destination.

There is a short cruise season in Alaska. Royal Caribbean is planning to have four ships in the region in the coming years.

  • Ovation of the Seas and Quantum of the Seas: These 4,180-passenger sister vessels are Royal Caribbean’s newest and largest ships scheduled to visit Alaska. They’ll sail to Alaska round-trip from Seattle with calls at Alaskan ports such as Sitka, Juneau and Skagway; and Victoria, British Columbia. They’ll also visit Endicott Arm for glacier viewing.
  • Brilliance of the Seas: The 2,142-passenger ship will sail to Alaska round-trip from Vancouver with a visit to Tracy Arm Fjord and calls at three or four of the following Alaska destinations: Ketchikan, Juneau, Skagway, Haines, Icy Strait Point and Sitka.
  • Radiance of the Seas: The 2,143-passenger Radiance of the Seas will sail one-way Alaska voyages between Vancouver and Seward, Alaska. Calls will include Hubbard Glacier and four or five of the following Alaska destinations: Ketchikan, Icy Strait Point, Juneau, Skagway, Sitka and Haines.

You can combine the one-way sailings on Radiance of the Seas with Royal Caribbean's land tours of Alaska, which can last from 2 to 5 days. You will have created a nine- to 12- night tour. There are a number of well-known interior Alaska locations that can be visited on the land tour part of the trip.

Europe

A wide range of itineraries in the Mediterranean and across Northern Europe are available from Royal Caribbean.

Barcelona, Spain and the Italian cities of Florence, Rome and Naples can be seen in a single cruise on one of the line's signature Mediterranean routes. The Mediterranean cruise will focus on the Greek Islands.

In Northern Europe, Royal Caribbean will take you to some of the most well-known cities in the Baltics. There are alsoineraries on the Norwegian fjords.

The line usually deploys around 10 vessels to the region each year on a seasonal basis and the ships stay from spring until fall. There are three to fourteen nights of voyages.

One of the longest sailings in Europe offered by Royal Caribbean is a 12-night trip out of Civitavecchia, Italy, which includes an overnight stay in Greece and a day stop in Rhodes, Greece.

Most of the Royal Caribbean ships sail out of England, Amsterdam, and other northern European cities.

In the Mediterranean, the line's hubs are Barcelona, Civitavecchia and Ravenna, Italy.

Asia

Royal Caribbean has built up a large business selling cruises out of Chinese ports that are aimed at the Chinese market. Chinese-language programming and Chinese-centered food and activities are offered. Royal Caribbean sells some Asia voyages to the US.

The nine-night Thailand and Vietnam cruises out of Singapore include stops at Bintan Island, Indonesia, as well as Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

There are 10-night voyages in Aomori, Hakodate, Akita, Kanazawa, Sakaiminato and Kagoshima, Japan.

Over the last three years, some of the line's Asia sailings have been put on hold due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. As countries in the region have relaxed travel restrictions, the voyages are about to resume.

Bottom line

One of the largest fleets of oceangoing cruise ships allows Royal Caribbean to offer a wide range of itineraries. You will be spoilt for choice if you decide to go on a Royal Caribbean cruise. At certain times of the year, almost all of the line's ships are deployed to the Caribbean. There are wonderful Royal Caribbean itineraries all over the world.
