We were able to make it. The year is almost done. Go as a team.

The end of the year means holidays, food, family, reflection, and so on.

When we look back over the last year, the things that stand out the most are put together by the team. Maybe it is a game that ate all your free time, or a gizmo that helped you do your job, or a song that stayed in your brain for weeks on end. There's a lot of things to listen to. A group of people. There are concepts It tends to result in an eclectic list of very good things.

Why are we doing this? I don't know. It became a tradition when we started doing it a year ago. People want to know why we don't do it.

Maybe you will find something you want to look into for yourself. Enjoy whatever the case is.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land

It's a Nintendo image.

I wanted my four-year-old's first game to be something he could play with me. Kirby and the Forgotten Land was recommended by a friend.

It would be a great game to play alone. It is a masterpiece for someone to play with a child. Kirby is the player with the first name and Bandana Waddle Dee is the player with the second name. My four-year-old son always wants to be Kirby. Unlike Kirby, the Player 2 role doesn't feel like a tacked-on sidekick, you can kick butt in your own right, and subtly play guardian angel/healer for Player.

We haven't been able to beat the last few levels. He doesn't want the game to be over and I'm in no hurry either.

Steam Deck

The image was created by Valve.

Thanks to the gaming gods, Valve's steam deck is less unobtainable than it used to be. It took me a few months to get back into gaming after picking one up.

I have always been a console guy for the simplicity of the experience. While PC gaming has its appeal, I have burned myself out spending hours messing with drivers and trying to figure out which mod might be crashing my install. While it benefits from the wealth of PC gaming resources and tools out there, there is not a lot of tinkering required to get it up and running out of the box. Even though you can install mod, custom utilities and the like, and even if most of your game library lives on steam, the Deck will deftly handle the various necessary background management processes, delivering a flow that feels familiar to this longstanding console gaming community.

Compatibility is the one thing I have in common. Every so often I run into a fatal error that takes a long time to fix, but the Steam Deck's compatibility layer for Windows games, Proton, does an excellent job for the most part. The game refused to launch despite my best efforts. Regular updates and generous refunds are what Valve has in mind.

“Crying in H Mart”

The image is from Knopf.

I picked up a copy of "Crying in Hmart" at a community bookstore in Boston and I am enjoying it. Zauner retells her experiences growing up as the daughter of a Korean immigrant mother who gets a terminal cancer diagnosis in her memoir. Zauner walks us through life in small-town Eugene, Oregon, where her desire to escape from the isolating suburbs fueled her resentment and rebellion against her mother, as she tries to pick up the pieces before her mother passes.

It is an emotional roller coaster, but I would be foolish to ignore the dishes mentioned in each chapter. One of the things that Zauner and her mother shared in common was their passion for food. A few dinners have been inspired by the movie "Crying in Hmart" over the last few months, and I'm sure it will continue for many years to come.

Elden Ring

Elden Ring with From Software

The image is from software.

It's pointless to praise this game now that it's seated among the all-time greats, but it was one of the best games of the year. Even with its flaws, Elden Ring made it possible for games to be truly original and inspired.

Warhammer 40K novels

Normally, I don't affect the 19th-century western canon, but this year, I picked up a book from the Horus Heresy prequel series, and I was curious about the fan film "Astartes." It's like a fool. These books are great, they have the confidence of decades of established lore. It's hard to find many in print.

Kobo Libra 2 (+ origami case)

The Kobo ereaders in their sleep cases.

The image is from TechCrunch.

I have a lot of e-readers, but this one has become my go to for its great display, light and ease of use, as well as a folding case that does triple duty as protection, stand and ergonomics. I have read thousands of pages on this thing.

This specific weekly desk calendar

Paper source

I don't know how to track time and appointments, and I've tried a lot of different things. I don't remember anything. The paper desk calendar worked for me. It's kind of mundane, but it's the size and style I want, and I need to get more organized during a busy year. I don't have to keep a memo pad when I tear off the page. This is what I want in life.

Garmin Fenix 5 Plus

Garmin Fenix 5

This image was taken from the Garmin website.

The Garmin Fenix 5 Plus was the next piece of hardware that I was going to recommend to my colleague, but he beat me to it. I bought this as a replacement for a more basic watch, but I have realized most of its value over the past year as I have begun traveling again.

While my old entry-level Garmin Forerunner 35 was fine for tracking distance, pace and speed in my runs, the Garmin Fenix 5 Plus allows me to map out a route through the Garmin mobile app and send it to my watch, which then serves up turn-by-turn navigation to ensure

I can also listen to music on my wrist. I don't have to carry a bulky phone with me if I want to listen to something. Having directions, podcasts and music on my wrist has been a real game-changer, even though I have a bunch of watches at different price points.

“We Didn’t Start the Fire” (podcast)

This was a great find for me this year because I am a big fan of history.

This is a good thing, as it leads us down paths that we otherwise wouldn't venture down, even if we were beholden to the words of a single song written more than 30 years ago. It spans from well-known public figures such as Richard Nixon and Joe DiMaggio to movies, music, wars and even Dacron, a type of plastic.

In one of the episodes, BillyJoel gets to explain why he included certain historical people and events in his song. The dynamics and banter between the co-presenters makes this all work. They bring it all to life when they discuss dense and obscure topics.

“Lucifer on the Sofa” (Spoon album)

The image is called spoon.

It's hard to get into new music these days, most of the time reverting to tunes from the 1960s to early 2000s. "Lucifer on the Sofa" was another superb album from the Texas rockers, mixing amazing melodies and hooks to create a new classic.

“Watermelon” (song from Dinner in America)

I was hesitant about including this, as it is not an all-time classic, but it is a fantastic little song and I think it should be included. The movie "Dinner in America" has an original composition called "Watermelon" that is worth watching.

Emily Skeggs, one of the main actors in the movie, wrote the song in a single day. Watermelon is a chugging two-minute punk ditty that reminded me that songs don't need huge production or instrument mastery, a melody and a repetitive drum beat that Meg from the White Stripes could probably do in her sleep. It has been whistled in my house for most of the year.

Stranger Things Season 4

The image is from the streaming service.

Injecting a Kate Bush classic into the ears of Gen Z was a stroke of genius, but the show managed to keep my attention and serve up some cracking new characters. The series still thrilled despite the ending being too exposition heavy for my tastes. Roll on the last two seasons.

Mastodon/the fediverse

I don't know what role the fediverse will play in shaping how humans talk on the internet, but in a year when the world's richest man paid an eye-watering fortune to purgeTwitter of opinions he doesn't like, I for one It's better to resist capture by billionaires. Protocols are not products.

Even though Musk is no longer the world's richest human, he is still the Chief twit.

Hooper’s Beta (YouTube Channel)

Climb smarter, get stronger, and avoid doing dumb things if you want to avoid injury. That is the philosophy behind the dehyping YouTube channel by a climber and physical therapist, who takes a science focused approach to furthering technique and defusing fitness fads, and often ends up giving more solid advice. Eating nothing but Huel for 30 days to find out if it is good for a climber's nutrition needs is one of the things he is willing to do.

ABBA Voyage

One of my favorites is a song called "music is back."

Many of us missed live music during the height of the COVID-19 epidemic. In order to make up for it, I went to a lot of jobs this year, none of which are relevant to the site.

You might have heard that the show uses virtual characters created by George Lucas, but it is not the same as seeing them in person. I was wondering if it would feel unethical, but it doesn't, because ABBA's band members got their say, and introduced their younger, virtual selves in a playful way that also blends in very well with the rest of the show. You can still see it in person if you are in London in the next few months.

AirTags

The image was created by Apple.

When my suitcase got lost in transit, I put an AirTag in it to make it easier to find, but the airline didn't know where it was for days, so I was able to get it back from a room full of lost items. I will put an AirTag in my luggage from now on. I want to let you know that some of you will find one under the tree.

iPad Pro + Magic Keyboard

The image was created by Apple.

I didn't like when people started talking about how they could use an iPad. I like my computers to have all the bells and whistles. I decided the iPad-as-laptop trend wasn't for me because I have a desktop Mac as my daily driver. The experience was lacking when I tested the waters a few times. I bought a magic keyboard.

It's obvious that typing with a real keyboard is better. The Magic Keyboard has made a difference in some places. I have been using a Mac almost daily for the last 22 years and my brain no longer remembers when I use keyboard shortcut. Everything would be an understatement if I said that my previous iPad experiments were missing command. I can do many things with the Magic Keyboard without touching the screen.

I decided to do another experiment with an M1 iPad Pro and Magic keyboard. I brought my laptop with me. I shouldn't have paid attention.

Crocs

Crocs is the image credit.

I work from a small building in our back yard and I run back and forth from the house a lot. Slipping into, and out of flip-flops is what this means. The shoes are not the problem if the weather gets worse. Crocs entered the picture. I got a pair of Crocs after seeing a reporter wearing them. I did, so I did. There is a person wearing pink. I have to run back and forth from the house because of the mud, rain, and snow. Crocs are good. Don't let your ugly self get in the way. What is comfortable is what you wear.

Defunctland’s YouTube documentary, “Disney Channel’s Theme: A History Mystery”

At the time of writing, all of my picks are related to recency bias. I feel pretty confident and not hyperbolic in saying that the Disney Channel's Theme: A History Mystery documentary is the best feature-length film I have watched in a long time.

This hour-and-a-half-long documentary about a four-note Disney Channel jingle is a strange and profound look into what makes good. You will get what I mean if you watch the entire thing. This is a masterpiece. I promise I'm not doing much.

I Was a Teenage Exocolonist

I was a teenager exocolonist is a narrative life sim that follows your character. You were conceived during a 20-year space journey from Earth to a new planet that your fellow humans are attempting to colonize, and the game starts when you are 10 years old. You can decide how to live your life for the next 10 years, as you and your friends try to figure out if landing on an alien planet is a good idea.

Have you seen any real world parallells? This game is so replayable that I spent the weekend in a manic fugue state, trying to get the good ending. There are many endings. It is possible to be a fascist soldier. Someone is a criminal. Someone is a farmer. A human! An engineer who doesn't ask enough questions makes genocide happen. Normal things happen in our daily lives.

I have not been able to stop playing this game because I have not been able to stop playing it, so it is kind of concerning how it has consumed my life. I think I can calm down now that I have a good ending to my story.

Depths of Wikipedia

you know when you’re feeling depressed and then you go see a man play bagpipes in front of a projection of a wikipedia screenshot that says “list of nontraditional bagpipe usage” pic.twitter.com/V1Ydrenrbj

I went to see a comedy show. It gets even weirder the more you think about it, because how do you turn absurdist internet content into a real-life event that actually entertains people?

Annie is a genius. Her meme pages/empire is a way for her to find silly facts on the internet, like how the Pringles mascot got his name because of a rogue edit on the internet. I didn't know what to expect when I went to her show last week, but I saw a guy build a Pringles ringle and a professional bagpipe player demonstrate his craft in front of a projector. The 1904 Olympic men's marathon was acted out by the Philadelphia chicken guy.

I've never been to a comedy event like that in my life.

Hu Chocolate

The image was created by Hu.

We all picked up random hobbies and habits during the first few months of COVID-19. I got a sweet tooth. I tried to get rid of it but also empower it.

My latest obsession is Hu Chocolate, an organic sweet that would make even the milk chocolate lovers among usTrademarkiaTrademarkiaTrademarkiaTrademarkia, Hu Chocolate is an organic sweet that would make even the milk chocolate lovers among usTrademarkia, Hu Chocolate is an organic sweet that would make even the milk chocolate lovers among I stick to their salty flavor despite trying a few flavors. It is the perfect treat to end your day with and feels a bit more luxurious than the average chocolate chip.

Cardamom coffee

I recommend Graffeo Coffee beans to anyone who loves java. Another coffee suggestion is cardamom syrup. If I want a sweet nightcap, I like to add a splash of Holy Kakow to my coffee. It added the right amount of festiveness to my cup and stopped me from buying fancy lattes outside every day.

Tooth & Claw: True stories of animal attacks

The host is an expert Biologist who knows how to take you through some of the most insane wild animal attacks, and his two sidekicks bring a bit of humor to the show. It's best if you're on a flight or car trip, but not if you're near kids or dinner.

“Andor”

The image was created by Disney+.

Even if you aren't familiar with the source material, this show was amazing and everyone should watch it.

It is a wild ride that changes settings and tones frequently, always deftly, and delivers some really moving performances in the process. The payoff is well worth it, as the audience is treated like they are smart enough to deal with subtle and even uncomfortable situations. The stories from this television will stay with me for a long time.

“The Bear”

The image is from the television show, Hulu.

There were a lot of great new shows this year, but none of them were as good as "The Bear." The show creates an atmosphere that makes you want to watch it again and again. It can make you feel a little anxious, but it is filled with beautiful moments. If you want a show that is both funny and fascinating, you should definitely watch "The Bear".

My Favorite – “Tender Is the Nightshift: Part One”

My Favorite released new music for the first time in six years. There is an eight-minute dance track called "Dean's 7th Dream" that features Grace's characteristic arch, despairing lyrics, delicately balancing chill synths and warm vocals. "Second Empire" and other tracks are part of the compellingEP. Don't dance, dance away your sadness.

Universal Audio SD-1 mic

The SD-1 dynamic vocal microphone is one of the best in the business. It is a dead ringer for the Shure SM7B in appearance and audio profile. It is better to eliminate room orbg noise than it is to spend money on it. It's one of the best deals in audio equipment.

WANDRD Roam 9L sling

The 9L version of the WANDRD Roam lineup is the most popular one. It has a large prime, a long zoom lens and plenty of room to carry. The neat trick it pulls off to make room for up to a 16-inch notebook is the real reason to purchase WANDRD.

Breville Smart Waffle Maker Pro

You can go out to breakfast. It's time to make breakfast at home. When I make waffles at home, I always feel like they are subpar, until the Breville Smart Waffle Maker Pro came along. I borrowed someone else's waffle iron and I loved it so much that I debated if I should buy my own waffle iron, but this was worth the price. waffles in the comfort of your house for you and your friends You can say thanks later.

Nalgene 24oz On-The-Fly Lock-Top Tritan Bottle

I highly recommend this one if you are looking for a new emotional support water bottle. It is the perfect size to fit into the cup holder of your car and it is easy to clean because it has a lock top.

“Stick Season” by Noah Kahan

There is a new show called Stomp and Holler. If you are a fan of any of the bands on this album, you should listen to it.

His first album was called "Busyhead" in 2019. His second album, "I Was/ I Am", was released in 2021, followed by his third album, "Stick Season." As he takes us on the journey of feeling stuck while watching those from your past move on, he has reached a new high. There are three tracks that show the theme of nostalgia. There are tracks like "She calls me back," "Come over" and "The View Between Villages" that show how much he wants more. This is the album you need if you want to blast through your hometown during the holiday season.
