Trump aides joked ‘dead voter’ claims exaggerated

Donald Trump and his legal team continued to exaggerate the number of dead people who voted in the election.

As Rudy Giuliani pressed the case in Georgia, Trump's chief of staff MarkMeadows and senior adviser Eric Herschmann privately dispelled the assertions.

He said that his son had only found 12 obituaries and 6 other possibilities.

Herschmann said that it sounded more like it. Rudy might be able to find the other 10k if he helps.

'Scared' Kevin McCarthy called Jared Kushner – in the shower – for help in getting Trump to call off the rioters

According to the Jan. 6 committee, the Republican House leader tried to reach former President Donald Trump multiple times, as well as asking multiple members of Trump's family for help.

According to Kushner, Leader McCarthy was frightened on the call. I heard in his voice that he was nervous and I wanted to help. I turned the shower off, put on a suit, and rushed into the White House.

He said, "Anything you could do, I don't recall a specific ask, just something you could do." I got the feeling that the legislators in the Capitol were scared.

RNC staffer refused to say Trump won Pennsylvania, report says

A staffer for the Republican National Committee was asked to write an email saying that Donald Trump had won Pennsylvania before the state had been called for either candidate.

He lost his job after the election. Hannah Allred told the committee that the decision to fire him was not hers to make.

According to the committee report, in the days after the election, Trump campaign staffers were challenged about how they were supposed to explain to voters that the campaign wanted to keep counting votes in Arizona but not in other states.

'Entire White House senior staff' wanted Trump to issue a statement instructing the violent rioters to leave the Capitol, but Trump refused

According to the final report, the entire White House senior staff was in favor of a presidential statement urging all rioters to leave the Capitol. Pat Cipollone was the White House Counsel at the time.

During his testimony before the committee, Vice Chair Liz Cheney asked Cipollone who he would put in that category. A long list of top staffers include Pat Philbin, Eric Herschmann, MarkMeadows and Trump's daughter. Cipollone said he couldn't think of anyone who didn't want people to leave the Capitol.

As the committee disclosed during its televised hearings, an eye witness said that Meadows told Cipollone that Trump doesn't want to do anything. Cipollone told Cheney the whole story. Cipollone said he had a conversation with MarkMeadows about what he thought should happen. I don't know if Mark said that to me. I don't recall him saying that to me, but he may have said something similar.

Trump floated plan for 10,000 National Guard troops to protect him in march to Capitol

In the days leading up to the assault, Donald Trump suggested that 10,000 National Guard troops could be used to protect him and his people.

The committee said that Max Miller shot it down out of concern for Trump's safety.

Miller later sent a text to a Trump aide, saying, "Just happy we killed the national guard and a procession."

There is no evidence that Trump ever called on the National Guard to put down the riot at the Capitol.

RNC fundraised on Trump’s false claims

According to the committee's final report, the Republican National Committee received millions of dollars in donations in the days after the 2020 election, having its most successful period of the campaign cycle.

But RNC knew Trump lost and changed language to protect from 'legal exposure,' report says

Interviews and internal documents show that the RNC knew Trump had lost and that its legal team carefully chose its language. According to the report, the RNC advised copywriters to change their language to try to steal the election. The term "rigged" or "Joe Biden lost or Trump won" should not be used by writers. They were told to use phrases like "finish the fight" and that Trump had 71 million votes.

According to the report, the RNC knew that President Trump's claims about winning the election were baseless and that additional donations wouldn't help him get a second term in office. They made several changes to fundraising copy that seemed to protect the RNC from legal exposure while still spreading and relying on President Trump's known lies.

High-profile Jan. 6 cases surface in report

Dozens of witnesses impeded the Jan. 6 committee investigation by invoking the Fifth Amendment or refusing to testify, panel says

More than 30 witnesses invoked their Fifth Amendment privilege against self-incrimination, while others invoked executive privilege or refused to testify, according to the committee.

When asked by the committee what proof they uncovered that the election was stolen, many of Trump's lawyers and supporters took the fifth. The fifth was taken by others who were central to understanding whether Trump was involved in a conspiracy with others. Meadows, who refused to testify and was held in contempt of Congress, could have specific evidence relevant to such charges, as could other witnesses who invoked their Fifth Amendment rights against self-incrimination.

Flynn refused to comment on whether he believed in the peaceful transition of power in the U.S. or whether he believed the violence in January was justified.

‘No evidence’ delayed National Guard response was intentional

The National Guard's delayed response to the Capitol violence was described as "unnecessary and unacceptable" by the House committee.

The investigators said the poor response was the result of military processes.

There is no evidence that the delay was intentional. None of the people involved understood what President Trump was planning for January 6th and how he would behave during the violence.

Donald Trump's encouragement of the rioters was noted by the panel as prompting the "full-blown" assault that overwhelmed the response.

Risk to Capitol was ‘foreseeable’

Although the House committee heaped primary blame on former President Donald Trump, the report also offered a damning account of law enforcement's response to troubling intelligence gathered in the weeks before the attack.

The committee concluded that federal and local law enforcement authorities were in possession of multiple streams of intelligence predicting violence at the Capitol. It should have been enough for more vigorous preparations for the security of the joint session, even though some of the intelligence was incomplete.

The failure to act on warningsjeopardized the lives of the police officers defending the Capitol, according to the panel.

The fact that the President of the United States would facilitate the attack on the Capitol was unprecedented in American history.

Trump reacts to Jan. 6 committee report

The final report of the House committee investigating the Capitol attack was condemned by the former president.

Trump criticized Pelosi over security issues rather than responding to the specific findings. The report failed to mention the failure of Pelosi to heed my recommendation for troops to be used in D.C., show the 'Peacefully and Patrioticly' words I used, or study the reason for the protest. Wait,ITCH HUNT!

There is no evidence of widespread fraud.

Committee recommended Trump be prosecuted at final hearing

  • The committee voted to refer four criminal referrals against Trump to the Justice Department: obstruction of an official proceeding, conspiracy to defraud the United States, conspiracy to make a false statement, and "aid and comfort" an insurrection.

  • The panel said there could be enough evidence to charge other Trump allies.

  • Four Republican lawmakers, including Kevin McCarthy, the potential next House speaker, should be investigated for disobeying the committee's subpoenas, according to the committee.

The House committee recommended the Department of Justice prosecute Trump for the Capitol attack.

The committee will recommend criminal charges to the DOJ in the new year.

Jan. 6 committee final report: How we got here

  • The committee made a case that Trump oversaw a "sprawling, multistep conspiracy" to overturn the election and prevent the transfer of power to Joe Biden.

  • In October, the House panel took the extraordinary step of formally subpoenaing Trump in order to kick off a legal battle with the former president who has denounced the committee's investigation as political.

  • Though the committee's work has been praised by the left, it has also drawn ire from Republicans, who said the work was partisan. The end of the committee is imminent with the GOP in control of the House.
