Spears: Let's not get carried away by the Packers' win (1:00)

Spears doesn't believe the Packers will make the playoffs. The song is called "1:00."

According to a source, Elgton will be one of the highest-paid players at either guard or tackle after he agreed to a four-year, $68 million contract extension.

As part of the deal, which could be worth up to $74 million with incentives, the 26 year old will get a $24 million signing bonus.

He will make an average of $17 million per year over the course of the next six years. Friday is when it will be signed.

If he stays at guard, he'll be the second highest paid guard in the country, behind only the Colts' Quenton Nelson. He would be one of the highest paid left tacklers if he moved to that position.

In March, he would be free to sign with another team. The Packers could have placed a franchise tag on him, which would have made him the highest paid player on the team. The Packers would have had to absorb the entire tag total if they had done that. His cap number for next season will be lower now that he's extended.

He started the last 14 games of his first season at left guard after the Packers drafted him in the second round. He started all 16 games in 2020 but played multiple positions. He played left tackle in 2021 when Bakhtiari was out because of a tornACL, but he was injured in November of that season.

In Week 2 of this season, he came back from that injury and played five games at right tackle before moving back to left guard. He was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2020 and was an alternate this year.

He returned to left guard in Week 9 after a slow start at right tackle.

In the last month, I feel like I've played well. I think I can get better at more things. It will probably take the off season to get back into my rhythm and get better than before the injury.

The Packers have several other key players who will be free agents after this season.
