According to Jeff Passan, the Cincinnati Reds signed Wil Myers to a one-year contract on Thursday.

Depending on playing time or if he's traded, the deal can be as high as $9 million.

In 55 games with the Padres in 2020, he hit.288 with 15 homers, 40 runs, and a.959 OPS. He made the Padres one of the most fearsome lineups in baseball.

A left oblique strain and a left foot bone bruise cost him time on the disabled list, but it was an important bounce-back year for him, as he hit.252 with 11 homers, 39 runs, and 39 stolen bases. He played 155 games in the year and hit just.239 with 18 homers and 53 runs.

After hitting 28 homers in 2016 (which earned him a trip to the All-Star Game) and 30 home runs in 2017: he established himself as a solid power hitter, though his time on the shelf in 2018: limited that productivity and his power numbers were lacking in 2019:

In just 77 games, he hit.261 with seven homers and 41RBI.

Myers has a career batting average of.254 and on- base percentage of.315. He hadn't hit.260 or higher until the 2020 campaign after hitting.293 in his first year.

The Padres couldn't find anyone to take him in a trade. When the team declined his club option, it was fairly predictable.

His history of pop at the plate made him an attractive target for the Reds, as he has spent time at third base, left field, right field, first base and even center field during his career.

It's not clear whether he can return to the level he played at in 2020.
