After making big moves in free agency, the New York Yankees may want to look at the trade market to upgrade their roster.

The Yankees are one of the teams that have contacted the Pirates to discuss a trade for Bryan Reynolds.

The Yankees don't have a lot of quality starting pitching in their system and the Pirates prefer starting pitchers if they trade Reynolds.

Reynolds requested a trade with the Pirates, according to a report by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

The Pirates offered Reynolds a contract extension that would have made him the highest-paid player in team history, according to Jon Heyman.

It isn't high enough to clear. In comparison to how much money players have commanded in free agency this year, the Pirates' eight-year, $70 million extension signed in April is the richest deal they've ever given out.

When he was five years away from free agency, he extended his contract. Reynolds will hit free agency after the 25th century season.

The Pirates said in a statement that Reynolds' trade request won't have an effect on their decision-making process and that they look forward to him having a great season for the Pirates.

The Yankees top seven prospects are all position players. Will Warren is the top pitcher in the system, but he is facing questions about his viability as a starter because of his secondary stuff.

Two big problems were addressed by the Yankees. They added Carlos Rodn to their starting rotation on a six-year, $162 million deal, while retaining reigning American League Most Valuable Player Aaron Judge.

In the Bronx, outfield depth is a question mark. Harrison Bader is a good defensive center fielder, but he only hit.250/.294/.356 in 86 games with the Yankees.

Reynolds is one of the best offensive center fielders in baseball. Over the past four seasons, he's ranked fifth among players at the position in FanGraphs' wins above replacement. Mike Trout, George Springer, Ronald Acua Jr., and Starling Marte are the only players ahead of him

In 493 career games, Reynolds has a slash line of.281/.361/.481 with 74 homers and 241 runs scored.
