It was easy to forget how much happened in 2022. It is difficult to keep track of the many twists and turns in the video games industry. There's the ongoing labor movement, the massive consolidation of studios and publishers, the continued rise of subscription services, and the occasional leak of the next big blockbuster.

A number of the most important games to be released over the last 12 months are not the best games but games that represent some significant storyline or emerging trend. This was achieved in video games from the beginning.

Marvel Snap

The power of a well-designed monetization strategy

There is a difference between the ideological differences of the two. There were two mobile games released this year, one in June and another in October. Theorycrafters said it would take around $50,000 to fully upgrade a character's gear in a game with microtransactions.

It was praised for its strategic and fast play. There is a give and take between a publisher and a player when it comes to games and they need to make money. If players aren't marketed to like they're livestock to be fattened up and killed, they'll happily pay for things in a free to play game.

Stray

Blurring the line between indie and blockbuster

The easiest way to tell if a game is an independently developed one or a big budget one was how they looked. That is becoming more and more true. Modern game-making tools have made it possible for small teams to create large realistic worlds that can compete with the big studios. Stray is a short adventure about a cat going home through a cyberpunk city. It's not quite a massive open world, but it's getting close and points to a future where the line between independent and blockbuster films is not as clear.

Ghostwire: Tokyo

A dying breed of straightforward single-player games

Ghostwire: Tokyo was so special because of how rare it is. Live-service titles and expansive open worlds are the kinds of experiences designed to keep you coming back. It is not Ghostwire. It is a straightforward action experience, finely tuning to be what it is without unnecessary frills but still rendered with the care and polish of a big budget release. It's not my favorite title of the year but it's a good reminder of how much I miss this style of game

Dwarf Fortress

One game to rule them all

The game that came out in 2006 was a big success. Among other things, Dwarf Fortress received a big update this year, and it added graphics for the first time. The creators of the game have a plan to keep the world updated and alive for a long time. Dwarf Fortress is an example of what I like to think of as a "forever" game, an experience that is so engaging and well-maintained that you could play anything else and still be satisfied. That is what makes them special. No Man's Sky has had another year of updates completed.

Elden Ring

The best stories are the ones we make up along the way

The game's narrative is the greatest story that has ever been told in video games, according to an interview with Empire Magazine. One thing I would argue about is that sometimes the best stories in video games are your own.

The Elden Ring is the best place to see it. I was in awe of the story I was experiencing more than the ones that came out of my own game. The time was when I killed a dragon. There was a skeleton that turned into a bear. The Elden Ring community, including the developers, pulled together to support Let me solo her, a player who came to the aid of people stuck on the game's hardest boss.

The world could always use more unions

The publisher cannot keep out of the news. It was harassment and discrimination last year. It was the news earlier this year that Microsoft was going to buy the company for a whopping $68.7 billion, and now it is because the company likes unionizing.

In 2022, it can claim to have the most video game unions in the world. After several complaints were filed with the National Labor Relations Board, the Quality Assurance departments at the two companies voted overwhelmingly in favor of unions. More workers are heeding the call for more heroes like the one in the animated short byWinston. According to Microsoft's labor policy, workers at ZeniMax Online Studios will be able to form their own union.

God of War Ragnarok

Exclusives for me, none for thee

God of War Ragnark sold over five million copies in its first week. It won six awards at this year's Game Awards, including best action/ adventure game, best narrative, and best performance. Nintendo and Sony both break sales records with their first-party games. As Microsoft struggles with its own first-party lineup, it shows just how important exclusive titles are.

Splatoon 3

Live service overload

The most refined entry in Nintendo's shooter series to date was released in September. Even though it was a great game, it seems to have had a relatively quiet response. My feeds are usually full of meme-ifiedScreenshots of Inkopolis Square, but that hasn't been the case this time I think live-service shooter fatigue is one of the reasons for that. There are only so many games that can work together. Splatoon is going up against some of the most popular games in the world, and it's going up against some of the most popular games in the world right now. Don't think about the squid kids, that's a tough ask.

Atari 50

It’s been a good year for old games

There are lots of new examples of how developers and publishers are keeping older games alive in the 21st century. Atari 50, a collection that straddles the line between an interactive experience and a history lesson, is the most notable example. Square released new versions of cult hits Chrono Cross and Live A Live, introducing them to a new generation, along with a pair of gadgets exploring its arcade and console history, as well as the original video game, Spacewar!

Netflix is getting serious about games

As a serious game publisher, it is time to start thinking ofNetflix. Some of its offerings this year are making a well-argued case for the video streaming platform being a serious player in the mobile gaming market. Desta: The Memories Between is one of the best dodgeball roguelikes on the market, and it's one of the exclusive content that is available on the streaming service.

Boss Fight Entertainment and Next Games were acquired while it established a new studio in Helsinki. Not all of the games are on mobile. It might sound weird if it keeps delivering these games.

GTA VI

Loose lips sink ships

The biggest release of the year was a leak. Early footage of the next Grand Theft Auto was leaked in September. There was a lot of footage to dig into, as well as the prominence. The second best-selling video game of all time is Grand Theft Auto V, which was launched back in 2013). Fans had been waiting for a clue as to what was to come from the developers.

The studio said that their work on the next Grand Theft Auto game will continue as planned and they remain as committed as ever to delivering an experience that truly exceeds your expectations. According to reports from this summer, it might launch in the year twenty four.
