Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke to Congress on Wednesday in his first trip abroad since Russia invaded his country.

Zelenskyy was applauded by members of the House and Senate after meeting with President Joe Biden.

Ukraine didn't fall despite all odds. He thanked the US for its support throughout the war.

Zelenskyy's visit was symbolic and similar to historic events.

Zelenskyy wore an army-green crew neck sweatshirt as he shook hands with Biden at the White House and spoke to a room full of lawmakers. The coat of arms of Ukranian is a gold trident.

Zelenskyy's sweatshirt, with cargo pants and boots, stood in stark contrast to the suit he would normally wear. The outfit Zelenskyy wore during his addresses over the past 10 months served as a reminder that war is still going on in the country. When the war is over, he will return to wearing a suit. The sweatshirt is important, according toInsider's Azmi Haroun.

It was similar to the green t-shirt Zelenskyy wore during his first address from a shelter in Kyiv and continued to wear during his virtual meetings with lawmakers around the world.

A pre-Christmas visit, just like Churchill

Zelenskyy's visit was similar to another leader in the war. The British Prime Minister arrived at the White House after 10 days at sea. After Japan attacked Pearl Harbor and the US entered World War II, Churchill planned a trip to discuss strategy with FDR.

During his visit to the White House, he wore a noteworthy outfit. The prime minister wore a onesie that was similar to a military uniform. In the event of an air raid, the main purpose of the suit was to make it easy for him to put it on.

Zelenskyy said in his speech to Congress that the war was not only for Ukrainian independence, but also for security and democracy in the world.

Zelenskyy invoked a famous quote from Roosevelt one day after the bombing of Pearl Harbor.

"No matter how long it takes, the American people will win through to absolute victory," Roosevelt said.

Zelenskyy said that the Ukrainian people would win as well.

At the end of Zelenskyy's speech, he presented Pelosi with a Ukrainian flag that had been signed by Ukrainian soldiers. He said the soldiers who gave him the flag asked him to deliver it to the halls of Congress, where decisions can save millions of people.

The flag is a representation of our victory. We will win because we are all together. He said thatUkraine, America, and the entire free world were included.

Zelenskyy was given a flag by Pelosi in honor of his visit.

Comparison to the Battle of the Bulge and Battle of Saratoga

Zelenskyy said that America's role in World War II was similar to that of the Belgians.

"Just like the brave American soldiers, who held their lines and fought back Hitler's forces during the Christmas of 1944, brave Ukrainian soldiers are doing the same to Putin's forces this Christmas," he said. Ukraine will never give up.

"Just like the Battle of Saratoga, the fight for Bakhmut will change the tragic story of our war for independence and of freedom," he said.
