  • Microsoft has launched a preview for Android 13 in the Windows 11 Subsystem for Android.
  • The preview includes several improvements and fixes for the Windows Subsystem.
  • Users can sign up to receive Android 13 via the Windows Subsystem for Android Preview program.

As part of the preview program for the Windows Subsystem for Android, Windows 11 users can now run the newer version of the operating system.

The preview was quietly announced a couple of weeks ago, but didn't get a lot of attention. Performance improvements and fixes for the subsystem are included in the update along with the upgrade to a newer operating system.

The changelog contains some information.

  • Windows subsystem for Android updated to Android 13
  • Added a new command that shuts down WSA for automation
  • Improvements in boot performance (50%, P10 case)
  • Improvements to mouse click input
  • Improvements in clipboard stability
  • Improvements to application resizing
  • Upgraded to Intel bridge technology for Android 13
  • Reliability improvements to media files opening in Windows
  • Jumplist entries for applications supporting app shortcuts

It's possible to run Windows 11 on Windows 11 computers if you're not familiar with the Windows Subsystem forAndroid. If the one you want isn't on the Appstore, you can sideload it on Windows 11 if you want.

Signing up for the Windows Subsystem forAndroid preview program is separate from the Windows Insider program. Having the Amazon Appstore installed on your computer is one of the requirements. On Microsoft's preview page, you can sign up.

Microsoft has a number of improvements in the works for the World Series of A. Picture-in-picture support is one of the features currently in Microsoft's roadmap.

Hopefully, we won't have to wait long, since it's unclear when Android 13 will arrive. Earlier this year, WSA was updated to the latest version of the mobile operating system.
