  • There are thousands of people stuck at the Keflavk International Airport.

  • Travelers describe a lack of food and water and no way to get to hotels.

Thousands of people have been stranded at the Keflavk International Airport due to bad weather and have taken to social media to commiserate.

A researcher at the New Lines Institute shared a photo of herself with actor Damian Lewis.

Rose told Insider that she asked Lewis to take a photo because she wanted to have a positive memory of the night. He was very kind. Lewis's representatives did not reply immediately.

December 18, 2022, is when the new president will take office.

Rose, who'd flown from Heathrow to Keflavk on Saturday, described her flight getting delayed "every several minutes or so, citing extreme weather on the ground," but she was instructed to stay on the flight.

All of the restaurants in Keflavk shut down and the vending machines were taken.

"Many of us were starving and had to scrounge for any food we could find after the airline only gave us cereals to snack on while we waited on the tarmac," Rose said.

As the number of travelers went up, the hotel accommodations went down quickly.

One TikToker, who said in a December 21 TikTok that he'd landed in Iceland for an hour-long layover and since been stranded for four days, described thewarming of passengers to find hotels at the same time. Many hotels in the area were fully booked over the weekend.

Even if you book a hotel stay with an airline, you may not be able to reach the beds you paid for. Rose was one of the travelers who booked a hotel room while on the tarmac.

She said that she had to eat the cost of her hotel booking for the night and sleep on the airport floor with hundreds of other people.

A woman whose mother was escorted by a mountain rescue guy was one of the people who tried to pick up visitors from the airport.

Travelers sleeping on the check-in baggage belt and on top of luggage, as well as those setting up "campsite-like circles" with strangers on the floor, were described by Rose.

Parents tried to put their children to sleep. The temperature at the airport was very low.

At around midnight, when rebookings started to hit passengers' accounts, Rose described frustratingly convoluted or impossible routes, including one traveler being placed on a Thursday flight out and another having to return to London.

Rose said that he had a transfer in less than 15 minutes to his flight back to Washington. The skin of my teeth was used to make it. She said that I cleandair lost her bag.

A crucial 30-mile highway that connects Keflavk to Reykjavk was cleared of snow as of Tuesday and flights out of the airport have resumed.

"Our team have worked hard throughout the night to rebook passengers on new flights, and they will do this today," the update said. Our priority is to get passengers to their destinations before Christmas.

Passengers are not happy with the way airlines handle the chaos.

According to a report by Insider's Rebecca Cohen, Ryan Stevens is down 1,500 euros after paying for three nights in a hotel and two more flights.

I didn't travel to the airport. I'm not trapped there. Stevens told Insider that he did not know what to do. Airlines can't be blamed for canceled flights, but the aftermath needs to be better handled. I don't know how to get out. I don't know what the next move is. There was no support at all.

Rose did the same thing.

I don't understand why the airline decided to send passengers to Keflavk when it knew that the weather was so bad that people wouldn't be able to get to a warm place to sleep.

Icleandair did not reply immediately.
