The creators of South Park and other media have raised $20 million to continue work on their deep fake studio.

When the media shut down in 2020 due to the Pandemic, the company started. When COVID came to their attention, they focused on creating the tools for use later, rather than assembling an artificial intelligence artist team for the film they were working on.

Stone said that they stumbled upon this amazing technology and ended up recruiting the best deep fake artists. If I hear back, I will update this post with more information.

When the company made its public debut, it showed the cachet of theParker/ Stone. The video for "The Heart Part 5" has the musician delivering his lyrics in seemingly one take, but when he addresses the camera directly his face takes on the aspects of others.

It is obvious that deep fake tech was used for this, just as it is obvious that the dragons in Game of thrones aren't real. Even though the substitution is not perfect it is still effective.

Deep Voodoo has begun to offer its tech to others in the business, thanks to the help of the $20 million from ConnectVentures.

It's not the only one doing it. Digital de-aging and "re-facing" has become a staple of Disney media, though early attempts were poorly received by audiences.

It is clear that the technology is here to stay, but how it will be used is still up in the air. Despite their notoriety for off-color humor and courting controversy, Stone andParker seem to be sound thinker when it comes to fundamental questions of fairness and narrative. That is a beginning.
