  • GeorgeSantos has been accused of faking his biography.

  • The attorney quoted a famous man.

  • The British prime minister isn't the author of the quote.

George Santos, a Republican from Long Island who was elected to Congress in November, lied to voters when he said he had lost four of his employees in the massacre at the nightclub.

According to an investigation by The New York Times, no one had a record of him.

He did not respond to an Insider request for comment on the story, nor did he rebut any of the claims. Rather, in a statement posted on social media Monday night, the Santos camp is appealing to partisanship and right-wing distrust of The Times.

The statement claims that the Left is in danger because of the election of a gay Latino. The congressman-elect has enemies at the New York Times who are trying to ruin his reputation by making false accusations.

The quote comes from the former Conservative UK prime minister who led Britain during World War II. I think it's good. It means that you have stood up for something in the past.

He never said the quote attributed to him, but he did say it.

The quote attributed to Churchill, which went viral on a Facebook meme, is actually a rough paraphrase of Victor Hugo, the French playwright, which was written a century before the Nazis were defeated. The fact-checking website was told by a representative for the International Churchill Society that it wasn't true.
