Computer scientists are tackling a greater range of problems. Many of the most significant computer science results involve other scientists and mathematicians. The security of the internet involves a lot of complicated mathematical problems. The product of two elliptic curves and their relation to an abelian surface brought down a promising new cryptography scheme that was thought to be strong enough to survive an attack from a quantum computer. One-way functions will tell cryptographers if secure codes are possible.

Computer science and quantum computing are related. One of the biggest developments in theoretical computer science this year was the posting of a proof of the NLTS conjecture, which states that a ghostly connection between particles known as quantum entanglement is not as delicate as physicists once thought. This has implications not only for our understanding of the physical world, but also for the many possibilities that entangle us.

Artificial intelligence has always looked to the human brain as the ultimate computer. While understanding how the brain works and creating brainlike artificial intelligence has long been a pipe dream for computer scientists and neuroscientists, a new type of neural network seems to process information similar to brains. They both tell us something about the other. It is possible that transformers excel at a variety of problems. Neural networks are being trained faster and at a lower cost with the help of artificial intelligence. The field is helping other scientists with their work and helping them achieve their goals as well.

Physicists and computer scientists were at a stalemate when it came to quantumentanglement. Everyone agreed that describing a fully entangled system would be difficult. It may be easier to describe systems that are close to being fully entangled. The computer scientists said that those would be impossible to calculate. A proof of it was posted by a group of computer scientists. Physicists were surprised, since it implied that entanglement is not as fragile as they thought, and computer scientists were happy to be one step closer to proving the NLTS.

Results from late last year showed that it is possible to achieve perfect secrecy with the use of quantumentanglement. Researchers were able to entangle three particles over a long distance.

Artificial intelligence has been revolutionizing how it processes information. The transformer processes every element in its input data at the same time, giving it a big-picture understanding that allows it to improve speed and accuracy compared to other language networks. Other artificial intelligence researchers are using it to work in their fields. The same principles can be used to upgrade tools for image classification and to process multiple kinds of data at the same time. More training is needed for non-transformer models than fortransformer models. Researchers studying how transformers work learned in March that part of their power comes from their ability to attach meaning to words. Neuroscience is starting to model human brain functions with transformer-based networks, suggesting a similarity between artificial and human intelligence.

The safety of online communications is determined by the difficulty of various math problems and how difficult it is to break them. Today's cryptography protocols are easy to use for a quantum computer. One of the most promising leads fell after an hour on a laptop. Christopher Peikert is a researcher at the University of Michigan.

Difficult questions are highlighted by the failure. If you can prove the existence of one-way functions, you can create a provably secure code. We still don't know if they exist, but a pair of researchers discovered that the question is similar to the one of complexity, which involves analyzing strings of numbers.

Artificial neural networks have given rise to the field of Artificial Intelligence. Researchers have to fine- tune billions of parameters in a process that can last for months and require huge amounts of data before a network can be built. They could use a machine to do it. They may soon be able to use a new kind of network called a hypernetwork. The hypernetwork gives a set of parameters that were shown in a study to be at least as effective as those in networks trained the traditional way. GHN-2's suggestions still offered a starting point that was closer to the ideal, cutting down on the time and data required for full training.

Another approach to helping machines learn was looked at this summer. It allows a program to learn from three-dimensional environments instead of static images. These systems learn fundamentally differently, and in many cases, better, than those trained using traditional approaches.

With more sophisticated neural networks, computers made further strides as a research tool. The problem of multiplication of two-dimensional tables of numbers called matrices could be solved with one such tool. As matrices grow larger, there is a standard way to do it, but it becomes cumbersome. Researchers at DeepMind announced in October that their neural network had found a faster way to multiply matrices. Experts cautioned that the breakthrough was not a new era of artificial intelligence that could solve all of the problems. A pair of researchers used traditional tools and methods to improve their work.

The oldest question in computer science is the problem of maximum flow. According to Daniel Spielman of Yale University, the team combined past approaches in novel ways to create an algorithm that can determine the maximum flow of material quickly. I thought that the good for this problem wouldn't exist.

Mark Braverman has been working on a new theory of interactive communication for 25 years. His work allows researchers to quantify terms like 'information' and 'knowledge', not just allowing for a greater theoretical understanding of interactions, but also creating new techniques that enable more efficient and accurate communication Braverman was awarded one of the highest honors in computer science by the International Mathematical Union.
