Franco Harris died three days before the Pittsburgh Steelers were going to retire his number.

He was old.

Dok Harris told Will Graves of The Associated Press about his father's death. There was no cause of death.

Harris was going to be honored by the Steelers over the weekend on the 50th anniversary of the most famous play in football history. Harris caught a Terry Bradshaw pass that caromed off a Raiders safety and then scampered to the end zone for a game-winning touchdown with 22 seconds remaining in the 1972 playoff game.
