According to sources, the Los Angeles Angels agreed on a two-year, $17 million contract with Brandon Drury.
He hit.263/.320/.500 with 28 home runs and 87 RBIs in his best season to date. He played all four infield positions and right field this year.
After signing a minor league deal with Cincinnati in March, he made the Reds' Opening Day roster and went on to hit 20 home runs in 92 games. While his numbers dipped with the Padres, he was still an above- league-average hitter.
After moving from Arizona to the New York Yankees, to Toronto, to the New York Mets, he was back in Arizona. He showed power with 51 home runs in 1,589 career at-bats but a sub-.300 on- base percentage kept teams from giving him a full-time role.
The Reds had no problem with the former 13th-round pick, who had the kind of season that made up for the low OBP. He'll make more money with the deal than he did in the past.
The Houston Astros won the World Series while the Angels finished last in the American League West in a season in which both teams made the playoffs. The Angels' offense, which finished 25th in MLB in runs scored this year, is expected to get a boost with the addition of Drury, Renfroe andUrshela.
