The US Federal Trade Commission widened an investigation into the company's handling of user data and police in Southern California seeking information about an alleged vehicle assault that may involve a member of his security detail.

A new chief executive officer for the social network is one of the legal developments that the billionaire executive is engaged in. Musk spars publicly with an investor in the electric car company he runs, who has chided Musk over his involvement with the social networking site.

Musk lashed out at an unhappy investor as the shares retreated.

Musk has lost his position as the world's richest person because of his pursuit and purchase of the social media company. A person with knowledge of the situation said that he was looking for a replacement after conducting a poll on the matter.

Musk will have to contend with FTC concerns whatever the outcome of that search. According to people with knowledge of the matter, the federal agency is looking into the privacy and data security practices of the social media platform.

Three people familiar with the matter, who asked not to be named, said that FTC lawyers questioned two former senior executives about whether they could comply with the agency's consent order since Musk took over. Many of the social media company's legal, privacy and compliance executives left due to Musk's October acquisition.

Two former executives were questioned by the FTC, one of which was the most senior cybersecurity officer. The head of compliance joined the two quitters.

After Peiter Zatko filed a whistle-blower complaint, the FTC opened a new inquiry into the company. The platform was a "ticking bomb of security vulnerabilities" according to Zatko.

Wilson Sonsini Goodrich &Rosati, the law firm that represented Musk before the FTC, parted ways with him, as well as the company.

Wilson Sonsini didn't say anything.

The general counsel and chief privacy officer have left the company.

When he was contacted by Musk about the expanded FTC investigation, he asked why he hadn't seen a change in the government's stance on social media.

Alleged Assault

Police in South Pasadena are seeking to question the billionaire's security team over an incident Musk has said represents a threat to his family's safety.

Authorities in South Pasadena responded to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon involving a vehicle. According to a statement from the South Pasadena Police Department, the alleged victim said another driver accused him of following their car on the freeway.

According to the statement, the alleged victim was hit by the other driver's vehicle as he left. The person who said they were struck, described only as a 29-year-old male from Connecticut, didn't identify the suspect or say whether the altercation was related.

The suspect was thought to be part of Musk's security team. Authorities said that Musk wasn't present. The detectives are trying to speak to Musk and his team.

A crazy stalker climbed onto the hood of Musk's car after blocking it with his own car. Musk said in a post that he was taking legal action against the operator of the private jet that he uses. There is no apparent link between the account suspension and the incident in South Pasadena. Journalists were temporarily banned from posting about the jet tracker on social media.
