  • Whatsapp rolls out "Accidental Delete" for users to undo the Delete for Me option when removing messages.
  • This feature will give users 5 seconds to undo a mistakenly deleted message before it remains gone from their view permanently.
  • Deleting messages in Whatsapp first launched in 2017 with a seven-minute timer that was previously increased to 60 hours.

The new feature for moments when we're going too quickly was released by Whatsapp.

The new accidental deletion feature for the popular messaging app was rolled out by the head of the app. The "Delete for Me" option on the app removes a message from your view.

When you accidentally take a message away from your view, this feature should be able to help.

In the app, if you select a message to be deleted, it will show the option to remove for everyone or for me. If you accidentally select deletion for me, a popup will appear that will allow you to restore the message and then uninstall it. If you want to get rid of a mistake, you'll need to act quickly because this option will last for 5 seconds.

The app allowed users to remove messages from their view. When the feature was first introduced, users were faced with a seven-minute timer for deletion, which was increased to 60 hours later. If enough people are dissatisfied with the current time frame, the Accidental Delete feature could be treated the same way.

The ability for group admins to remove messages for everyone in a group chat was tested in August of 2022, before the launch of Whatsapp.

The platform is refining its user experience and playing catch up on features like removing messages. A view-once option is being tested by the Meta-owned message app. This function already exists for photos and videos and would arrive in the hands of users over a year late.
