There is no support for President Biden's claim that he awarded his uncle a Purple Heart during his time as vice president.

At a military veterans event at Delaware's National Guard headquarters on December 16, Biden said that his uncle was eligible for the Purple Heart but never got it. Biden said that his father encouraged him to give his uncle a medal. The Purple Heart is given to service members who have been wounded or killed in action.

When I became the vice president, my dad told me that Uncle Frank fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He was not feeling well at the moment. He said that he won the purple heart. He didn't receive it. He didn't get it. Are you able to help him get it? In his speech, Biden promised to surprise him.

Biden did not become vice president until after his father and uncle died.

It is possible to give a purple heart to the next of kin. FactCheck.org couldn't find any proof that Frank Biden received a Purple Heart after he died. The National Purple Heart Hall of Honor doesn't have his name on it.

Biden gave incorrect information about when his uncle joined the Army. According to Snopes, Biden joined months before the attack on Pearl Harbor, despite his claim that he joined a day after. Biden claimed that he gave his uncle the medal.

Biden has shown signs of mental and physical decline, frequently losing his train of thought in public and struggling to remember certain events. He is the oldest person to be inaugurated as president.
