I was taken aback by the comparison of the original release of the game to what it became. It is crazy to think that significant updates are coming to the game. The most recent changes have changed the game in a positive way, as if Zero build mode wasn't enough for one year.

There are contents.

  • Freedom of choice

The trailer for the first season of the game.

Another map, more movement options, and a new random ability mechanic are included in the latest chapter of the battle Royale-turned-metaverse. There are exciting updates, but they are not what matters to me: I want to be able to use whichever weapon I want, for the first time in my life.

Sins of Fortnite past

The man is Giovanni Colantonio.

In the past, there was always a set routine for a round: get the two weapons that were clearly a cut above the rest, grab a special tool, and fill the rest of your inventory. It has been this way since I started playing, and by the end of the last chapter it was time for me to move on.

I used to play the game with my sister and my girlfriend. At the end of each season, we would have a game plan and our favorite tools to find, put to use, and stick with, whether it be the Raygun from the classic alien beach season or the Drum Shotgun combo. The well was running dry in the last chapter. The best guns were not the ones I was having fun with. The longest break we had from the game was due to my crew burning out on the game.

Something new was what we wanted. The newest chapter of the game delivered.

Freedom of choice

I did my usual weapon testing when I got into the new chapter. I decided to check out the season's new weapons since they've been historically bad. I was expecting to laugh at the Machine SMG, a type of fast-firing close range option that is usually weak, but instead I felt like I just opened a Christmas present. It was a weapon that I could actually win with.

Every weapon in the game followed this trend. The pistol has been a weakness in the game. According to the latest chapter, each weapon is now sufficiently powerful, but only when used in a specific way. The SMG has an impressive damage output and can be shot up to medium range, but its aim and damage rate make it hard to use from afar. The red dot scoped rifle is good for short-range shots but not long-range ones.

This seems like the standard for any modern shooter, but it's not. Past chapters had a few guns worth looking for, but that was countered by a lot of inconsistent guns that were hard to understand. The Charge SMG, a gun that players had to charge in order to fire a flurry of bullets, didn't feel good in any match. The Ranger assault rifle had a decent range but did not do a lot. No matter how hard I tried, previous updates had guns that didn't have much utility.

In the latest chapter, that has changed. Playing with a team is even more enjoyable now that everything feels balanced. Everyone is playing different classes at the party. Each weapon has a different purpose and reduces the rat race to find the top guns.

Even if it doesn't seem like a game-changing update, it is the most important update to ever come to the game. I hope that the new philosophy of the game doesn't change.
