The coach of the year was named by the Associated Press.

The Frogs went 12-1 in the regular season and earned the third seed in the playoffs. They were a runaway winner for the award. He got 37 of the 46 first place votes.

"It's the ultimate team award, that's what it is," he told the AP. More so than ever in college football, it is a team effort.

When he moved to Texas Christian University from SMU, he had huge shoes to fill.

Gary Patterson is still the program's winningest coach despite the program's stagnant performance. The Frogs won six conference titles under his watch and went on to win the Rose Bowl and the Peach Bowl.

It looked like Dykes would need at least a year or two to get things on track after the Frogs went 5-7 for the second time in three years.

The 53-year-old provided immediate results, but he didn't upend the roster through the transfer portal. The Frogs' leading passers were all holdovers. Bud Clark and Dee Winters led the team in sacks and intercepts.

When the year began, the Frogs had no expectations at all. After his team dropped 55 points on Oklahoma, he probably changed his mind. It was the first win over a ranked team.

This has been one of the best seasons in the history of Power Five programs.
