Mark Otieno
Sprinter Mark Otieno is one of the three Kenyan athletes to receive a ban from the Athletics Integrity Unit

The three athletes were banned for eight years for violating anti-doping rules.

Marathon runners Alice Jepkemboi Kimutai and Johnstone Kibet Maiyo and sprinter Mark Otieno have been banned by the AIU.

Otieno failed a drug test moments before the 100m heats at the Tokyo Olympics.

He wasn't allowed to participate.

Otieno's ban from the Games will be backdated and end in July 2023.

Kimutai, who won the Porto marathon in November, was suspended for a year after testing positive for testosterone.

Maiyo had a positive test for erythropoietin and was banned.

Despite having 55 athletes serving suspensions, the east African country was spared a sanction by the governing body of World athletics.

In order to bring an end to a string of cases in the sport, the minister of sports in the country decided to criminalise the use of performance enhancing drugs.
