Are you interested in investing in wine and spirits? Vint wants to facilitate this and thinks everyone should. Vint investments are fractional, so don't expect bottles to be shipped to you. A recent offering that sold out on Vint was for a Macallan 78- Year-Old Collection whisky bottle worth $130,000.

There is no doubt that alternative investments are on the rise, with financial advisers telling clients that the age-old 60/40 portfolio is no longer good enough. Wine and spirits are not the most accessible, which is what Vint and others are trying to change.

After raising more than $1 million in October, it recently closed a $5 million seed round.

In recent years, fine wine and spirits have often outperformed other asset classes, such as stocks, and seem to be immune to some of the public markets' recent troubles.

The value of single malts was up by more than a fifth this year, according to data from Scottish investment bank Noble & Co. The U.K.'s main stock market index has not traded much this year.

Nick King warned against false hopes in the story. It's an investment. He said that if someone told him that it would only go up into the right, he was skeptical.

King is proud that Vint has generated returns of 28.3% for asset exits. Wine and spirits collections went through Vint's full lifecycle.

Since its launch one and a half years ago, Vint has made 50 offerings, which are similar to a crowdfunded campaign. The startup spent eight months getting the ability to launch U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission- qualified collections.

The creation of the regulated category known as Reg A+ allowed Vint's offerings to be accepted by the SEC. The JOBS Act has resulted in tailwinds for alternative investments.

King thinks that the process was worth it. This is a long term game for us. It's important to do things the right way and work with regulators to set up a structure that adds trust to the asset class

Despite being framed as a new asset class, Vint already has competitors. Do-it-yourself and wine exchanges are more than these.

King thinks that the fact that he doesn't come from the wine world is a plus, and that he sees Vint as a financial technology company. Adam Lapierre, who holds a master's of wine certification, was recently hired by the company as its head of wine.

The expansion of its existing team of 12 has been supported by the recent round of funding. Some of the things King has in mind are listed below.

New offerings are being looked at by us. We have done wine, whiskey, scotch casks, and futures, so we are looking at possibly adding Bourbon as well. We would like to add more data to the platform. market data, auction market data to help inform our buy and sell decisions, and that is something we want to keep sharing with our users. Continuing to exit assets is the most important thing.

The rise of wine and spirits as an asset class will be worth keeping an eye on, but it is too early to tell if market conditions will be as favorable as they were in the past. It would be expected to see alts become a fixture in more and more portfolios as inflation and uncertainty increase.
