So you wanted to buy a car, but then you found out that the man you wanted to buy it for was the one who bought the social network. You are not certain?

Some people publicly declared they will never buy one of his electric vehicles because of his behavior. According to a poll of users on the social network, most would like for him to step down.

China's BYD is catching up toTesla, the leading electric-vehicle maker. The Model S, the first car developed from scratch by the company, caused the general public to rethink what an electric vehicle could be with its sleek looks and high-end finishes.

Strong recent entries from established brands are taking a bigger share of the EV market.

Telsa owners, who are known for their devotion to the company's leader and his brand, have shown a drop in loyalty in the last few months.

You are curious about electric and are considering it. Maybe you are interested in what other people are selling. Maybe you don't have strong feelings for Musk, but you want to find a different type of car for your needs.

A substitute for the entry-level Model 3, left, is the Polestar 2.

Instead of: Model 3

The Long Range dual motor model starts at $57,490 and has a range of 358 miles. The Model 3 has an estimated range of over 200 miles and can go from 0 to 60 in 5.8 seconds.

Try: BMW i4,  Polestar 2 or Kia EV6

BMW entered the luxury electric vehicle space with the i4. The i4 has a range of 300 miles and a starting price of $55,900. The fit and finish of the interior cabins in the i4 is one way it shows that it is impossible to duplicate the quality of German manufacturing in a few years.

The Polestar 2 has comparable performance and a range of 270 miles. The dual motor has a starting price of over $50,000. The EV6 has a range of more than 300 miles and has more cargo space than the car.

You could consider an Audi e-tron, at right, instead of the Model Y.

Instead of: Model Y

The Model Y is used in the fleet to serve that purpose. The Model Y Long Range has more cargo space than the sedans and can fit seven people.

Try: Audi Q4 e-tron or BMW iX

The audi q4 e-tron premium has a range of over 260 miles and a top speed of over 60 mph. The BMW iX costs $83,200 and has a range of more than 300 miles. It is unattractive and boring to drive, but our review says it has the quality expected from BMW.

The Model X, left, could be swapped for a Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo.

Instead of: Model X

The Model X, which starts at $120,000 and has a range of 333 miles, is the closest thing to an SUV thatTesla has.

Try: Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo

Drivers who were previously interested in a Model S could consider the Mercedes EQS.

Instead of: Model S

If you purchase the extra power boost model, it will get you to 60 mph in less than three seconds. The dual- motor model has a range of 405 miles and a time of 3.1 seconds.

Try: Mercedes EQS or Audi e-tron GT

You can get the most technologically advanced car that Mercedes-Benz has ever offered for $104,700. The driving range of the EQS is over 500 miles. The Burmester 3D surround sound is one of the luxuries. The roomy, beautiful interiors, HEPA air filters and front seats that heat rapidly and offer massages make the car feel like a health spa.
