A police sergeant has resigned after an altercation with a female officer.

Police said there was an altercation between an officer and a sergeant. The location of the altercation and what happened was not given.

The police chief said he met with Adams later that day and he resigned from the department. It was not clear how long Adams had been employed by the police department. A request for more information was not responded to.

Adams was promoted to sergeant in July 2021. In the last year the city has online records, Adams made $109k in total pay and $18k from overtime.

Peoria police officer made more than $300,000 while on paid leave.

The investigation is being handled by the State Police. The chief said that the city wouldn't comment on personnel matters.
