According to a report by the Boston Globe, the San Diego Padres agreed to a $280 million, 11-year contract with the player who felt disrespected by Boston.
A contract extension in the range of the six-year, $140 million deal signed by the RedSox'sTrevor Story would have been seriously considered byaerts.
He was offered one more year and $30 million on top of the three years and $60 million he had remaining on his previous contract by the American League East team. The person said that the offer was a slap.
He still thanked the fans.

It seems that Boston had a way to stop the 30-year-old from hitting free agency. Lee explained that the four-time All-Star wanted to stay in Boston for his entire career and was willing to move to second or third base if needed.

"There are a couple of things we could have done better," Chaim Bloom said of the negotiations with Bogaerts.
While Boston was not interested in signing him to a huge deal that would have taken him into his late 30's, the value of his services changed during the campaign. He had two World Series crowns, four Silver Sluggers and three All-Star selections on his resume, but he turned in one of the best years of his career in the last year of his contract.
He slashed.307/.377/.454 with 15 home runs and 73 runs scored while posting five defensive runs saved above average.
The 5.8 wins above replacement total was second only to the 6.3 he posted in the year. He was a bright spot for the RedSox, who finished last in the American League East.
After reaching the American League Championship Series the previous year, Boston was one of the most disappointing teams in baseball.
The Padres will get Fernando Tats Jr. back during the season after he was suspended for the first 50 games of the season for violating the terms of his suspension. After reaching last season's National League Championship Series, the Padres are in World-Series-or-bust mode.
He might be extra motivated because he felt snubbed by Boston.
