The authorities said that 33 people were hurt when the flight from Phoenix to Honolulu was hit by turbulence.

The Hawaiian Airlines flight arrived at the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport in Honolulu at about 11 a.m. According to Honolulu Emergency Medical Services, medical personnel treated passengers and crew members who were injured.

Shayne Enright, a spokeswoman for the services, said that 36 people were injured. One teenager was hospitalized with serious injuries. She said that nine other people were in stable condition. The baby's condition was not immediately known.

There were injuries including a serious head injury, lacerations, and loss of consciousness. She said that none of the victims appeared to have life threatening injuries.

Hawaiian Airlines provided medical care to the passengers and employees who were injured in the flight.

The chief operating officer for Hawaiian Airlines said at a news conference on Sunday that the seatbelt sign was on when the plane experienced turbulence.

Cold or warm weather fronts, thunderstorms and jet streams can cause turbulence, which is air movement that can't be seen.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, 58 people in the United States are injured by turbulence every year because they don't wear their seatbelts. The last year in which the administration has posted data on its site, there were 234 turbulence accidents in the U.S.

The turbulence on Sunday was caused by an unstable patch of air that caught the flight by surprise.

He said there was no warning of the air.

Some of the people who were injured did not have their seatbelts on. He said that the National Transportation Safety Board would be looking into it.

He said that they would have to look back at the investigation to see what other precautions were taken.

The National Weather Service posted a weather advisory for storms at the time of the turbulence.

He thought they flew into a storm.

According to Hawaii News Now, a passenger on the flight said that turbulence came out of the blue and threw her mother up in the air.

Other passengers have experienced frightening turbulence that resulted in injuries. Thirty people were treated for injuries at Kennedy International Airport in New York when a flight hit turbulence. 21 passengers were injured when turbulence threw them out of their seats on an Air Canada flight.

Jim Ireland, the director of the Honolulu Emergency Services Department, said at the news conference that it was unfortunate that there were no deaths.
