Former President Donald Trump's hold on the Republican Party is waning, according to outgoing senator Pat Toomey.

The election result last month accelerated the waning. He said on CNN that his campaign's terrible start is not helping him.

The outgoing Republican senator said that he thought Trump's influence was already declining. He said that it was a sign of Trump's weakness that other Republican candidates were planning on running even after he announced his campaign.

"In my travels after the election around Pennsylvania, I've heard from many, many formerly very pro- Trump voters that it's time for our party to move on," he said.

During his farewell speech in the Senate, Toomey warned his GOP colleagues that the party cannot be about or beholden to any one man.

We are much larger than that. "Our party is much larger than that."

He hopes that we resist the temptation to adopt the protectionist nativist isolationist redistributive policies that some are suggesting we embrace.

Trump's losing friends and allies after announcing his 2024 bid

Since announcing his campaign in November, Trump has been at odds with the governor of Florida.

He launched a sale of token which was ridiculed by Steve Bannon. The 45,000 cards that were sold on that day may have made over a million dollars for Trump, according to a report.

On the same day that Carlos Curbelo told MSNBC he thinks Trump is in deep trouble due to a potential criminal referral from the House Select Committee for the Justice Department to prosecute him over the Capitol riot, Republican Senator Pat Toomey made the comments.

The panel will vote on the referral on Monday.

Donald Trump is in a tough spot. I do not believe anything can save him. Curbelo told MSNBC that he thinks Donald Trump can use criminal referrals as a way to rally his base. I don't think this will save him because his next bankruptcy is coming on the horizon.

Representatives for the two men did not respond to the request for comment.
