For the first time in her career, Venus Williams will play in the Australian Open after being awarded a wild card.
Serena lost to her sister in the final of the Australian Open. She has competed in the season- opening major for 22 years.

Venus hasn't played a match in over a year and is currently outside the top 1000. She lost in the first round in singles to an unseeded Alison Van Uytvanck of Belgium and then in the doubles with Serena as a wild card. The sisters were defeated in the first round by the Czechs.
While Serena had announced her plans to "evolve" away from tennis to focus on off-the-court interests and ventures, the elder Williams sister did not reveal any such plans.
When asked about her future in tennis, Venus said she was focused on the doubles.
The Australian Open women's doubles title has been won by Venus and Serena four times. She has a good record at the Australian Open.
