Amid ongoing controversies, Elon Musk polls his followers: 'Should I step down as head of Twitter?'

It's not clear who will replace Musk if he steps down as head of the company.

More than two million votes were cast within 30 minutes of the poll being posted. 56.7% of respondents voted "yes" to Musk's question.

As the saying goes, be careful what you wish, as you might get it.

Since taking over the social platform, Musk has made multiple policy decisions, including whether to unsuspend the account of former President Donald Trump and other users banned under the previous leadership.

There have been threats of international sanctions since Musk completed the $44 billion acquisition of the company.

Insider's requests for comment were not responded to by Musk or the representatives for the micro-messaging service.
