While people around the world were watching the World Cup final, the social network banned links to other websites. Mastodon, Truth Social, Tribel, Nostr, and Post are included in the current list. Link-in-bio tools like Linktree and Lnk.bio are also banned. You can't post links to your other social profiles or type out your handle in a twit.
Free promotion of certain social media platforms has been stopped by the company owned by Musk. The company said that it is removing all accounts because of their purpose. Links will be removed from social platforms.
Specifically, we will remove accounts created solely for the purpose of promoting other social platforms and content that contains links or usernames for the following platforms: Facebook, Instagram, Mastodon, Truth Social, Tribel, Nostr and Post.

The social platform said on its policy page that it would no longer allow free promotion of specific social media platforms on its platform.
If you link out your handles more than once, you will be asked to remove your account from the service. If you have links to any of these platforms in your bio, you will be asked to change it.
If you pay for the promotion, you will be able to post your handle.
The Washington Post journalist's account was suspended on Saturday. Lorenz only had three posts on her account, two of them promoting her other social media accounts, and one asking Musk for comment on a story she is working on with Drew Harwell. Harwell, along with reporters like the New York Times' Ryan Mac and CNN's Donie O' Sullivan, were temporarily suspended after posting about how Mastodon's Twitter was banned for linking to an account. Musk asked users to vote on the fate of the journalists.
This policy was not yet in place when Lorenz was suspended. Her account appears to have been restored.
