The Umbrella Academy

The final season of The Umbrella Academy will be a bit of a price for a show that used to be a top performer.

The fourth season of The Umbrella Academy will be six episodes in length. The previous three seasons were all ten episodes per season, with most episodes lasting between 50 and 60 minutes.

Steve Blackman is the showrunner and he maintains that the episodes will be good.

After last season it felt like The Umbrella Academy was dragging, so I think it would benefit from a bit of downsizing. It's almost certain that this is being done for cost reasons, and that it's a middle ground between a full 10 episode, 10 hour order, and reversing the renewal entirely, which is not impossible in this day and age of streaming. There will be an actual ending to The Umbrella Academy.

The early seasons of The Umbrella Academy were good, but season 3 felt like a mistake. Season 3 dropped in terms of audience scores. The first two seasons of the show had high scores on the Tomatoes, but the third season was not as good. There doesn't seem to be a targeted review bombing campaign, but rather people just didn't like the season I would concur with that sentiment. It wasn't very great.

There is no announcement on the length of the episodes right now, as sometimes shortened seasons with longer episodes make up some of the difference. This season will be shorter than the last three, and I think they will be normal length. It could be for the best.

It is a good move for the streaming service to allow The Umbrella Academy to finish its storyline. Even if there is a reduced order of episodes, more shows should get this chance. It is at least some amount of time to wrap things up, as opposed to ending on a steep cliff, as has been the case with many other productions on the service.

The Umbrella Academy can benefit from a bit of editing. This year, we will find out.
