The Football Association has confirmed that the England manager will stay until after the European Championships in 2024.

After England's World Cup exit, he was unsure about his future in the job.

He led the Three Lions to the semi-finals of the World Cup and the final of the Euros in his first two years in charge.

His contract is due to end in December.

Mark Bullingham, the FA's chief executive, said that the FA is delighted to confirm that the England manager is continuing.

The manager and his assistant have always had our full support.

Following Sam Allardyce's departure as England's manager in November of last year, Southgate became the new boss.

The fourth permanent manager of the national team is a former defender.

In the six years since, he has brought stability to the England camp, building a strong unit of players off the pitch and a team that is considered a serious contender for major silverware.

In 81 games he has won 49 and lost 14. His record of winning six knockout games in major tournaments is the same as that of England, who won six in a row.

Despite growing expectations, the team is yet to win a trophy.

In the last four of the World Cup in Russia, his side was beaten by Croatia, while England were beaten on penalties by Italy in the Euro 2020 final.

England went into the World Cup on the back of three defeats and three draws after being demoted from the Uefa Nations League.

England topped their group after victories over Iran and Wales, and then beat Senegal in the last 16.

Their journey ended in a defeat by France, with captain Harry Kane missing a late penalty, having earlier scored to equal Wayne Rooney as England's leading scorer.

From 2012 to 2016 he was in charge of the England Under-21s.
