Ja Morant was thrown out of the game just before halftime for making comments to courtside Memphis fans that were derogatory about the officials.
Morant was thrown out with 43 seconds left in the first half for his second technical foul. After committing a foul to stop play and complaining about a no-call, he picked up his first technical.
According to a pool report, crew chief John Goble said that Morant was assessed two technicals, one for using profanity and one for questioning the integrity of an official.
Goble denied that the second technical was called because of Morant's conversations with fans.
Morant confirmed the conversation and said he wasn't talking to the official before either technical.
I got my first tech because I said I was hit in the face. Morant did not curse at him. I got another tech for talking with a fan when he was in my conversation. When these fans went online to buy tickets, they didn't mention Ray's name.
The seven-game winning streak was snapped when Morant scored just six points.
The courtside fans got two thumbs up when Morant left the game. He was talking to them from the locker room.
Morant's father was carrying a cell phone over to the fans. Morant said he spoke to the fans on Facetime after he was ejected.
Morant said that the people came to support the team. They came to watch the game. I don't want to pay a fine.
Morant was fined tens of thousands of dollars for his comments about the officials. He was asked if he felt like he was being treated differently because of his behavior on the court.
I'm not sure. He said it's probably so. "I think probably don't like me."
