The layout of Michael Jordan's exclusive golf club creates a dilemma for pro players.
Rickie Fowler talked about why pros call the course "Slaughterhouse XII" and why Michael Jordan has an advantage over other players.
According to Fowler, Jordan designed the fairways so long hitters could hit their drives into narrower ones. The advantage is taken away from Jordan's professional visitors when shorter hitters like MJ drive into larger sections.
Fowler said the shorter you hit it, the bigger it is. He can hit the driver on all the pars. I have to put it into a tighter spot to hit the driver. If it's a hole where he's getting a stroke on, that becomes a disadvantage.
Jordan made sure that the course gave him an advantage when he was competing against other players. Fowler said that he needs to give Jordan 10 shots.
Fowler said that he couldn't play from the same spot he was when he was laying zero. He is capable of shooting from 71 to 74. I have to shoot 65 to get to 18 if he shoots 77 and has a double in there.
Jordan has an advantage. DJ's trainer says that Jordan's trash talk during their one-on-one rounds gives DJ a better chance of winning.
There are a lot of challenges designed into the course. Bobby Weed, the renowned golf course designer, was contracted by Jordan to build the course.
Jordan has created an advantage in the past when money was at stake. The United Center's board showed animated bull races when he was a player. Jordan bet Scottie Pippen $100 that the Bull was going to win the race.
Jordan opened the club in Hobe Sound, Florida, in the fall of 2015, and Fowler is one of the few hundred members to play there. Fowler is one of the club's biggest-name members.
Jordan seems to have kept the membership small in order to make it one of the most exclusive clubs around.
