The new CEO promised that with his great power would come great responsibility and that he wouldn't ban the account that was tracking his private jet.

That was not a true story.

On Wednesday, after the suspension of Jack Sweeney's ElonJet, a new home on the internet was created dedicated to the account. The billionaire uses public flight tracking and transponder data to see where he goes when he's not at work.

Over 67,000 people have joined the subreddit dedicated to tracking Musk's private jet, making it the third fastest-growing on the site. The following message was pinned to the forum on the same day that Sweeney was banned from the social networking site.

The latest attempt to hide public data about a corporate jet's location is funded in part by U.S. taxpayers. We need to spread the word.

Some people pointed out the hypocrisy of Musk's stances on free speech and others responded to Musk with the current location of his plane. In order to preserve freedom of expression, I will be checking this sub from now on, because one post says they're not even interested in the jet.

At a time when the list of problems for the social media platform just keeps growing, Sweeney's ban and the creation of r/ ElonJetTracker come at a very volatile moment for the platform. Several accounts, many of which belonged to prominent mainstream journalists, were banned or suspended by Musk for allegedly violating the policy on doxxing, the act of revealing personal information about an individual with the aim of harassment or with malicious intent. According to Musk, Sweeney's account and others were used to aid a stalker that he thought was following him and his son.

Many of those accounts are back in use.

According to Insider, Musk tried to take down the account but was rejected and countered with a $50,000 offer instead.

The United Nations was displeased with Musk's antics. On December 16th, Musk restored the accounts of right-wing election deniers and QAnon supporters.
