Nick Evers, a transfer from Oklahoma, was added to the roster on Saturday by new Wisconsin coachluke fickell.
Evers was ranked as the 166th best prospect in the country. He was a recruit from a Texas high school.
Evers originally committed to Florida but changed his mind and signed with the Sooners. He sat behind Gabriel, who transferred to Oklahoma from UCF and threw for 2,920 yards, 24 touchdown and 6 interceptions while rushing for 298 yards and 5 touchdown.
Gabriel will be back for the Sooners, and Evers was looking for a new challenge. After Fickell was hired by Wisconsin, the coach was looking for a new option at quarterback, and that's when Graham Mertz entered the transfer portal.
He is getting Evers, who will have four years of eligibility remaining and will be able to play next season. Cole LaCrue, a three-star quarterback from Colorado, is one of the staff's recruits.
