John Carmack is no longer an executive consultant for virtual reality at Meta.
Want must read news straight to your inbox?Carmack told employees that this is the end of his decade in the virtual reality game. I don't know what to think.
Carmack quit his job at id Software in order to join the team at the virtual reality company. He continued on after the acquisition by Facebook. He stepped down from his position as the CTO at Oculus to work as a consultant.
He wrote that he wanted to see mobile hardware, inside out tracking, optional PC streaming, and a 4K screen in the firstQuest. Millions of people are still getting value out of our software despite all the complaints. There is a good product. Products make the world a better place. We built something that was close to the right thing, even though it could have happened a bit quicker.
The problem was the company's efficiency. He said that an organization that has only known inefficiency isill prepared for the inevitable competition and belt tightening, but really, it is the more personal pain of seeing a 5% graphics card utilization number in production. I find it offensive. Carmack stated in a post that he was being poetic here.
The Summit is called Into the Metaverse 3.
The findings and emerging trends within the metaverse will be examined by the GamesBeat community.

Some will say that we are doing well, but others will say that we are doing half the job. That's right, ha! I'm at quarter efficiency.
Even though he has a voice at the highest level, he felt like he should have been able to move things along. He has never been able to kill stupid things before they cause damage or have a team stick to it. He never moved to the area where Meta is located. He said he would have lost leadership battles even if he was busy programming.
He told them to stop complaining. The fight is still winnable even though I have my own startup to run. No company is better suited to do virtual reality than Meta. It's possible to get there by plowing ahead with current practices, but there's still room for improvement.
Carmack said in August that his company had raised 20 million dollars. Andrew "Boz" Bosworth thanked Carmack for his work in a statement.
In internal and external communications, Carmack was critical of his bosses. He criticized ZeniMax Media, which bought id Software in 2009. ZeniMax and id sued Palmer Luckey and his company for allegedly misappropriating trade secrets, and Carmack's role in helping the company was called into question. There was a settlement in the case.
