The Electron rocket on Launch Complex 2 on Wallops Island.

A private space company is preparing for its first liftoff from the United States.

The mission is called "Virginia is for Launch Lovers" and is scheduled to take off on December 18 between 6 and 8 pm. There is an hour and a half later. The Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport is located within the Wallops Flight Facility.

It is possible to catch a glimpse of Electron's flight along the East Coast. Electron will look like a bright, fast- moving star in the sky.

Weather permitting, the launch should be visible along a swath of the U.S. east coast.

Liftoff was pushed back two days to allow time for NASA and the FAA to complete their paperwork.

Three satellites are going to be deployed by the Electron rocket for HawkEye. There is a subsidiary in New Zealand. In the last year, the company has been flying its rockets from New Zealand. For its launch, Rocket Lab is changing it up.

According to Rocket Lab, the launchpad on Wallops island was built to support its missions for government and commercial customers. There are 32 Electron missions that have already launched from Launch Complex 1 in New Zealand.

NASA hopes that more private space companies will come to Virginia for their needs with the upcoming launch. NASA is helping foster a growing low- Earth space economy and Wallops has supported the commercial launch industry for 35 years.

Peter Beck, chief executive of Rocket Lab, said during a briefing on Wednesday that there are a lot of jobs at Wallops. The number is on the order of hundreds. We want to establish a large footprint here.

The first private mission to Venus was launched by the rocket lab.
