The athletic department announced Friday that Mickey Joseph, Nebraska's interim football coach for nine games this season who was charged with felony assault, is no longer with the team.

The department didn't have any more to say.

According to a police affidavit, Joseph put his hands around a woman's throat, pulled her hair and punched her during a domestic dispute. He was accused of assault by strangulation.

After his arrest, he was put on administrative leave. His next court appearance is January 30.

Two days after Matt Rhule was introduced as the team's new head coach, Joseph was arrested.

It wasn't clear if Joseph received a pay cut. His annual salary was listed at $600,000.

He could be fired for cause if he was found guilty of a crime that impaired his ability to perform duties. The university won't have to pay the remaining money if the firing is upheld.
