Terry was selected by the Dallas Mavericks with the 31st pick in the 2020 draft.

Terry decided to let go of the game that was part of his identity. Since taking my first steps, something has guided me. I have achieved amazing accomplishments, created unforgettable memories, and made lifelong friends, but I have also experienced the dark times of my life. It began to destroy me when it didn't build me up. I began to question the value of myself more than those around me. I found myself struggling to take normal breaths because of the rock on my chest that weighed more than I could carry.

This is just a brief description of the anxiety this sport has caused me, and while I'm grateful for every door it has opened for me, I can't continue this fight anymore for something I have fallen out of love with.

He scored 13 points in 13 NBA games. He was drafted by the team after one season at the school.

During his first year in Dallas and his second year in training camp, Terry took a lengthy leave of absence for personal reasons. He was cut by the Mavs at the end of the preseason and spent the rest of the season on a two-way deal with Memphis.

Terry wrote that he would be remembered as a bust, a failure, or a waste of talent. It is the failures in life that lead to the greatest success. I am very excited to be able to explore more of what I have to offer. I have never been able to find my identity outside of basketball.

I apologize to the people that I have let down, and I am eternally grateful to those who have believed in me. I am going down a different path that will hopefully lead to happiness and being able to love myself again.
