Users are not allowed to jump off the sinking ship.

The site began blocking links to popular server late Thursday night. The official account of Mastodon was suspended by the social networking site. The accounts of prominent journalists who have written critical about Musk in the past were removed from the site.

According to a report, users who try to quickly send out Mastodon links will receive an error message saying they cannot complete the request due to the link being potentially harmful. The original mastodon.social server, as well as at least 10 other domains, appear to have been blocked by the social network.

Some Mastodon links have trickled into people's feeds over the past month after they've spent a few moments on the social networking site. The service drew in nearly 500,000 users in the first two weeks after Musk took over. He said he wanted to avoid the platform after Musk turned it into a free-for-all hellscape. The link ban on Friday caused some users to add a Mastodon profile link to their account.

It is worth noting that the company's communications team reportedly underwent major cuts as part of the company's estimated 3,700 personal layoffs.

The official account of Mastodon seems to have been kicked out after it posted a link to the banned account. The account that tracked the location of Musk's private jet was suspended from the social networking site for violating its rules. Musk said that real-time posting of someone else's location was against doxxing policy. Jack Sweeney was the creator of the ElonJet. Musk tried to bribe Sweeney to take the account away.

The purge didn't end with the plane. Most of the journalists whose accounts were banned had written articles critical of Musk. It is not clear why those accounts were permanently suspended, but all of them seem to have used the same account.

Some of the bans were addressed by Musk in a series of messages.

There would be hearings on Capitol Hill if anyone posted real-time locations of NYT reporters. Musk said something. riticizing me all day long is fine, but doxxing my location and endangering my family is not.

Musk left it up to the users of the social networking site to decide if or not to reinstate members of the press. The majority of respondents said that the accounts should be restored immediately. The bans should continue for seven more days according to 14.4%. Musk used a similar approach to make a decision on whether or not to restore Trump's account.

Musk joined a space event with a banned journalist after discovering a way to allow banned accounts to join the social audio feature. Musk left the meeting after trying to explain his rationale for the ban.
