The era is coming to a close. The beginning of the end for the long-running series will happen in January, with Ash Ketchum, the main character of the series, retiring.

The recent development in the latest iteration of the long-running series saw Ash become a World Champion Pokémon Trainer, defeating Pokémon Sword and Shield's Leon in the Pokémon World Coronation Series, earning his first international title win in the entire 25-year run. No one has ever been like Ash in his quest to become the best.

It's home. The final chapter of Ash and Pikachu's story will be told in a series of 11 episodes in Japan beginning on January 13th. Two new characters will be introduced for the franchise in April.

The two new protagonists of the as-yet-untitled series will be accompanied by the three starter Pokémon of the Paldea region. The fact that these will be their names in the series seems to suggest that they could possibly get new names when the series is dubbed.

Sarah Natochenny has been the English voice of Ash Ketchum for 17 years. He will live on in the hearts of many generations to come.

For nearly two-and-a-half decades, the franchise has been defined by its reluctance to embrace change across all of its incarnations, whether it is the video and card games or the fact that Ash has been the face of Pokemon. Over the years, the card game has evolved in fits and starts, adding layers of mechanical complexion, and this year's spinoff: Arceus all represented big steps forward forPokémon's approach to its traditional game structures. Before we bid farewell to a young hero from Pallet Town, we need to try something new.
